Help -- challenging insurance offers

That's the main reason I start laughing every time I hear about the current "tort crisis" and how it's the plaintiff's bar that's keeping the cost of insurance high. The industry gets to set its own odds, decide what to charge, and when and if it will pay a claim.

Are you suggesting that the "crises" in malpractice (and other types of) insurance happen to hit about the exact same time that the stock market tanks, times at which it is more difficult for insurance companies to make a profit on investments from policyholder premiums?

I usually burn the downloaded music onto CDs, and sometimes put tunes onto my Rio mp3 player (some sports model). (I haven't bought a bigger jukebox-type portable music player, like an iPod or something similar, because I use my mp3 player at the gym or on the rare times that I go running.)

I use Rhapsody. I don't know if it's genereally availabble, or proprietary to Comcast, which is my internet provider. It's a little cheaper than iTunes. I find I like the ability to play stuff online and store it on their server more than burning, which I do very little of, although it's not expensive to do so.

I hate weddings.
I am in deep denial about a wedding I must attend this weekend. I haven't started looking for a dress, shoes, bag, gift. I did buy new mascara, but that's it.
The OM's brother is getting married and their mother has arranged and paid for everything except for selection of the bridal attendants' dresses. Had my future sister-in-law been older and wiser, she would have handed that decision off to the mother-in-law as well.
The wedding is at 1 pm at an elegant historic home in Houston. I am tempted to recycle something from my wardrobe -- a bright silk chiffon skirt with a little beading. I don't know why I am thinking separates instead of a dress or dinner suit, aside from my incredible laziness, general distate for weddings, and a complete hatred of his family's weddings, since there will be absolutely no alcohol served to deaden the pain. Oh, and no dancing. Or fun. At least with the no dancing, it will be short.
Is there any reason I should avoid wearing chiffon to an afternoon wedding?

I would go with something with extra room to hide the flask.

That is creepy. Get out of my head and quit stealing my original ideas.
How can there be no drinking at a wedding reception? Hell, how can you attend the wedding itself stone-cold sober? Am I missing something here? Won't it cut into the cash gifts for the happy couple if the guests have to sneak out to the local package store or bar during the reception? Are they perhaps providing ma-rah-jew-wanna to the guests in lieu of spirits?

Take all that hate you feel for the Yankees and think about why you feel that hate and you will understand why the rest of the world hates the U.S.
God I fucking hate the Yankees. Baseball should be embarrassed. You Yankee fans should be embarrassed. I'd be embarrassed if I was playing in an 8 and under baseball league. That's basically what the Yankees are doing. It's like Kramer kicking every kid's ass in karate class.

This is unfortunately fairly common. A lot of the more fundamentalist Christian churchgoers have "cookies/cake and punch" type wedding receptions. (There are probably others that do this too.) In short, they suck. Barely tolerable, even if the reception is for reaaaaly good friends.

Religious fundamentalists. There should also be no jewelry.
We snuck out to a local Bennigan's years ago in the middle of Christmas shopping for a drink. It's the last time I remember anyone attempting to sneak any form of alcohol.

This is exactly why I turned down an invite to a Mennonite wedding.
Weddings are supposed to be a compromise for the couple and their guests. The compromise from a guest's perspective is: I'll sit through your bullshit long-ass-Ava Maria-oh-wonderful-it's-a-full-mass ceremony if you let me get shitfaced for free.

Concur. On the bright side, at least they gave up someone of value. Soriano's no stiff and it wasn't a bag full of marginal minor leaguers and some batting practice balls.
ETA: Which is what usually happens in these deals with the Yankees.

Good. I was afraid the whole mind control thing wasn't working when I was unable to get you to clear your PM box so I could ask you a good place to drink Bud Ice if one is stuck in Atlanta for an extended time.

Here's my wild-ass prediction/fanatasy: in the middle of June A-Rod fouls a ball off his left foot and breaks it, and while he eventually comes back, he's never quite the same, and falls into obscurity by 2006. Meanwhile, Soriano cranks up in 2005 and starts a ten year streak of at least 50 home runs and 50 steals, going down as one of the greatest players the game has known, and this trade goes down as the biggest bone-head move in Yankee history, comparable to Baltimore's Schilling trade back in the day.
Hey, it could happen.

She left off "and anal sex" -- the mind-control thing isn't working.
