Doesn't it depend on what the marketing is you're talking about? No, it's not likely that an hispanic singer is going to have an inherent appeal (because of race) to a black audience, etc., but ads that incorporate minorities, generally, as opposed to whites only, seem to have a stronger effect on minority groups' purchasing behavior. So, if you're AI and want to balance things out and create diverse appeal for the show and compilation albums, it seems like such a strategy isn't laughable.

1. Depends on what you call a vacation. We will go away separately for a couple nights or so with friends. I may go to Vegas or an occasional weekend of carousing with the guys or to conferences, etc. She's goes to similar things with her girlfriends, including Vegas (suffice to say we have different interests in Vegas). That said I have friends who do go on separate vacations. One goes to the north woods of Canada for a week fishing with his buddies. From what I understand, his wife has no interest, goes somewhere else during the year with her friends, and they still vacation together...

2. 2 kids. They stay at home with the non-vacationing spouse unless we're visiting family. We take our oldest to places appropriate for his age occasionally. Our youngest is too young to know what's going on... The pilgimage to see The Mouse is still a couple of years off.

3. Spouse stays home, and has her hands full, let me tell you...

I realized my earlier answer was, well, wrong. We've taken separate vacations, but only in the sense that visiting one's family can be called a vacation. The "vacating" person takes at least one kid.

I understand that they can diversify their Idol portfolio to increase their market share. But it's weird to think that signing a minority (as opposed to a black or asian or hispanic) female fills some type of void.

but that ad campaign does have different ads targeted to the african american community vs the hispanic community. there is not one single minority campaign, which is, I think, TM's point.

I could even tell you more than you want to know about some of the ads in that particular campaign because one of my friends does post-production work for McDonalds.
