For the price of two weeks of triple americani, buy your own coffee maker and some good beans.

I forgot to mention that I'm incredibly lazy at 8 AM.
Although I do that on the weekends.

And it tastes like shit. I really think they have injected extra caffeine into their coffee to get people addicted to it. If I have two cups I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. And I can drink as much coffee as I want from other sources. No one would ever drink it for the taste.
|
Are you talking about regular coffee or espresso drinks? I can dispute the "no one would ever drink it for the taste" in that I know several people (perhaps not the indie free-thinkers that you all (other than barely) are) who will basically only drink their lattes and that basically poo poo the non-Starbucks versions now. Said folks do admit that it could be related to some extra (besides the caffeine, I mean) addictive ingredient that Starbucks is slipping into them. No idea on regular coffee.

Isn't that like a Big Gulp?
I've never minded Starbucks, but then again I grew up in a place that had no decent places to get coffee. On the other hand, the local little coffee chain does have better coffee, as long as the manager isn't on vacation, since they roast their own and the assistant manager always seems to burn it (or something - I'm not knowledgable enough about coffee to know exactly what is wrong with it, it just tastes bad). And it's cheaper. But no WiFi.
And Tazo tea is okay (I've not a big fan of flavored teas, and that seems to be their strength), but check out SpecialTeas. Lots of great teas in bulk, and the prices work out to be less than Lipton for most of the really good teas, although there are a few that are astronomical (but as the site points out, still less than even cheap wine). I like the Nuwara Eliya Ceylon and the Makaibari Darjeeling.

The only bad thing about Starbucks, and this is petty, is that don't say small-medium-large. For some reason, that bothers me.
You can't expect to get lawyers to agree on coffee opinions though. I was at Stoehl Rives in Portland. It had caf/de-caf/flavor
dispensers for 3 or 4 brands. That is Starbucks, Caribouu, Coffee Beanery, etc.
I understand the more powerful pf the partners couldn't agree so they had this "solution." They need a stronger CEO/manager who can make tough decisions.

What? I can't hear you - the dork in the next office is grinding his beans again. I'm glad to put up with it if it saves him a couple of bucks a week.

TAKE A TRAIN, FATTY!
I was just reading an article on yahoo that said the NTSB is now suggesting htat airlines weight passengers because some flight or another crashed because of all the fattys sitting in the back of hte plane. apparently the weight estimates airlines use haven't kept up with the "increasing weight of passengers"
perhaps they could make it into some combo plan...rejected fatsos have to walk or bike to their destination and then they can fly back.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Diedrich's gets most of my coffee money, because I like the people who work there, I like the people who go there, and they put up with me for thirteen hours a day, six weeks straight back when I was studying for the Texas bar. And again for the California bar. Hell, they gave me free coffee and muffins. I also like their coffee and the free wi-fi. Still corporate coffee (Empire's people wear tee shrits that say "corporate coffee sucks"), but it's good and it has a more local feel.
That said, my real addiction is diet coke. Coca Cola shareholders should take note that I'm trying to give up caffine again, so the stock price will probably fall in the next few weeks.

Regular coffee.
Sometimes a cafe au lait, which Starfucks apparently changed to "Misto"...and I get corrected when I order a "cafe au lait": "Oh you mean a 'misto'." NO! I mean coffee with fucking hot milk you fuckhole.

I drink it mostly as a drug delivery system, and for that, Starbucks is great. If I want a cup of really good coffee, I go home and fire up the machine. Different places, different purposes.

There is a neat little indie (no, really) shop about a block from my apartment. (Also a Starbucks closer than that, but I digress)
It is attached to a cooking store (also not a chain) and is only open until 5 or 6 or something. I've never had the coffee there (as discussed above), but most people do order it in real cups and sit and eat (really good) paninni sandwiches. It is packed on weekend days. Great atmosphere though. I'd hang out there on weekdays if I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work. Tea is good (loose stuff, not sure what brand).
