I think that Bilmore used to make $500 brownies back in the '70's, but I could be wrong.

Scientists stirred to ridicule ice age claims
Yet again another example of a Rep willing to criticize another Rep.

Yeah, but he didn't believe it. In think none of the senior civvies believed it -- except Powell. Flying out to an aicrraft carrier and a "Mission Accomplished" banner on May 8, 2003?
Yeah, a long f-ing slog indeed.

Now, that's just close to being silly. (Applies at most only to those who base their opposition to the effect on Afghanistan.)

Or were they thinking of his spokesman - Fleischer, or the GOP Sentors and Congressmen -- and the "aid and comfort to terrorists" remarks? Agency law don't apply?

And, he explained fairly carefully how he was going to do this, through taking the land, fixing the place, and turning it over to them to run.

Nice Power Point outline. Now develop a fucking plan to get it done. The clock is ticking, and the GOP Convention approaches.

Aside from that, yeah, it was good.

"Retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni wondered aloud yesterday how Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld could be caught off guard by the chaos in Iraq that has killed nearly 100 Americans in recent weeks and led to his announcement that 20,000 U.S. troops would be staying there instead of returning home as planned.
"I'm surprised that he is surprised because there was a lot of us who were telling him that it was going to be thus," said Zinni, a Marine for 39 years and the former commander of the U.S. Central Command. "Anyone could know the problems they were going to see. How could they not?"

Good shit! Just shows how much they love him. Someone earlier this week, I think, was asking about a potential sacrificial lamb if things really turn sour. Bush is, if anything, too loyal -- but f anyone goes it would be Rumsfeld, but only because Wolfowitz isn't senior enough to appease the crowd.

We need the UN in our cities!
A quote from a breaking-news article regarding today's events involving the UN in Kosovo:
>>Serb and international sources in the city told The Associated Press that the U.N. police officers started shooting at each other and that the shootout lasted for about 10 minutes. The information could not be immediately confirmed. <<
Kerry says we should do what with the UN?
Has the UN ever done anything net-net positive without the US contributing at least 50%?

Another reason to be wary of Frenchy........
Quote:
FBI Warns of Stolen French Passports
Thursday, April 15, 2004
WASHINGTON — Nearly 10,000 blank French passports were stolen in February, leading the FBI to warn U.S. law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout.
"These stolen passports are of particular concern because France participates in the Visa Waiver Program (search) that allows visitors from 27 nations to enter the United States for pleasure for 90 days without a visa," the FBI said in the warning issued Wednesday.
"Fraudulent or illicitly acquired travel documents, such as passports and visas, compromise the security of U.S. borders by providing means to gain unlawful entry into the country. Fraudulently issued or altered passports can be used by criminals, including terrorists, to adopt false identities, impersonate other citizens or conceal suspicious travel."
French officials notified the U.S. Embassy in Paris (search) that 6,300 blank passports were stolen on Feb. 3 and another 3,000 disappeared on Feb. 10, the bulletin said.
The FBI said that other French passports were stolen in July and September.
French passport numbers, the FBI said, are composed of two digits, followed by two letters and five digits. For example, some of the stolen passports were designated 04 CF 64301 through 04 CF67300.
The Feb. 3 incident, the FBI said, also included the theft of 5,000 blank French driver's licenses, 10,000 blank car ownership certificates, 25 titres de voyages (Geneva Convention travel documents) and 1,000 international driver's licenses without any identification numbers.
"The FBI possesses no information that these stolen identification documents are being used in terrorist activities. However, law enforcement agencies that encounter these documents should immediately advise" the Homeland Security Department's (search) Immigration and Customs Enforcement Law Enforcement Support Center, which operates round-the-clock.

I'm not sure if French slurs are allowed so I'll stop here.

Well, I know it was hardly articulate, but I've been billing like two Republicans this month.
Note the hour of my post, and please cut me some slack.
It is remarkable, though, to hear such criticism of a sitting SecDef from a recently retired 4 star who worked with him. To throw Not me a bone, I'll also note that there are damn few liberal Generals in the Marine Corps, so I doubt this was motivated by partisanship.

The military used to be more heterogenous, politically speaking, than it is now. It's really not a healthy thing for the military or the country for it to side with one or the other party.

I didn't say it was anyone's fault. I just said it wasn't a good thing. Stop looking for someone to blame for everything, Hank.

Juan Cole thinks Muqtada is unbalanced:
- Well, I would not want psychiatric medicine to be abused by employing it to deal with Iraqi dissidents. But I do think Muqtada's statements and behavior are so erratic that we may conclude he has some sort of fairly severe personality disorder. This should not be surprising, insofar as he grew up under extreme Baath repression, and his father and older brothers were machine-gunned down only 5 years ago. His wife's father, Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, had been hanged in 1980, when both Muqtada and the girl who later became his wife were children. It is hard to know what living with constant terror and the death of loved ones does to a young mind. He is afflicted with grandiosity and a great deal of aggression, and he may think he is the Mahdi or Islamic promised one.
Bad news for the prospects of a deal that will let us avoid fighting the Mahdi Army.
