His HR/SO ratios are good (and it's all about the ratios), but his other numbers (particularly OBP and OPS) are very very good, but hardly worthy of the reverence he's given.
Now for his importance as a cultural figure, I'll leave that to the Michael Chabon set.

I think he got a lot of props for the smoothness of his swing. Ever see Strawberry hit in his prime? he had a similar smoothness. It was like his arms were crafted to swing a bat. Like watching a really good golfer with a great arc swing reeeeaaaal slow, but still tag the ball 300 yds.
But he was a notorious dick and he looked like a horse, so fuck him.

You're a fucking idiot. DiMaggio's swing was pedestrian, not a stitch different than Rose's. And he didn't have half the power of Strawberry. The only distunguishing characteristic of watching him play was that he ran in a fashion that appeared slow, like Rodman, yet like Rodman, he was actually pretty fast. You want to see a perfect pure swing, try George Brett. That cat could hit. Too bad he did so many years in the fucking Royals org.

No one could snort a mound of coke as smoothly as Darryl. God it was beautiful. Instead of two separate entities, it was like the coke was an extension of Darryl's body.

I know how you all love my punctuation hijinks, so please allow me to share.
I sent along a local-counsel opinion to some colleagues with the (ever-so-clever) re: line of "A little pleasure reading".
I then sent a follow-up e-mail (yes, I actually did this -- all internal people, so no biggie) that commented on how it really should have been titled "A little-pleasure reading."
And the laughs just keep on comin'!!

It would be nice if he could last at least 4 min, wouldn't it? Perhaps you would like to join the support group.

HANK!!! If I had a ruler, I'd rap it across your knuckles.
THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS "YOUR'S" (and to pre-empt future abominations, there is no such word as "childrens" either.)
You do this on purpose, don't you? And with my heart condition -- how could you?
