* I imagine this wasn't a windfall of acting jobs for black people, but what epic films these days are? Matrix**? Gladiator? Star Wars?

** I take back Matrix which had a few roles thrown their way.
Not so fast. Halle is only blackish (half black) and this flick is set in Greece, is it not? A country full of dark complected white people so it would be just as much of a stretch to cast that Alician Silverstone looking chick as it would Halle.

That said, I think Karina Lombard could have pulled it off. She is exquisite, and dark. Assuming strong acting isnt a requirement.

Can someone make this my avatar with a photoshop of maude lebowski? This, along with fatties who take the elevator to the second and third floors and shorties with umbrellas is the bane of my existence.

I am serious about the avatar.

This phenomenon is not confined to DC. I walk out on Market St in Philly everyday and am constantly forced to jockey around meandering groups of people sometimes four abreast. Usually, one isleaning across two in the middle, making a point to the fourth person from whom he is furthest. When you try to pass them, they'll often give you a look, like "Hey, slow it down", which amazes me.

I used to think this ill behavior was limited to dumpy 40-50ish secretaries in stretch pants, but I've seen entire groups of businessmen and young people doing the same thing. I hope this is not some trend...

If you want to chat slowly in groups at lunch while you walk, go work in an office in the burbs.

This is so typical of fat fucking DC

This must explain the elevator to the second floor phenomenon. This must be the fattest city in the country.

Years ago, Metro bolted small metal "Stand to Right" plaques to some escalators but then removed them, concerned that the message was an implicit endorsement of walking, something the transit system officially condemns.

"Apple"* is a half-assed attempt at traditional name rebellion. If Gwyneth and her husband-with-the-whiny-voice-who-sings-the- same-song-over-and-over-in-endless-variations-on-all-his-records had a thimble's worth of balls between them, they'd have gone full bore and named the kid Moon Unit, like Zappa did.

That's the problem with rock stars these days - no balls at all.

* If this is some tip of the hat to the Beatles, I'm going to vomit myself.

Nah, they were just butt-wasted on appletinis one night and said "hey, wouldn't that be a cool name for our first kid!", except neither one of them had enough active brain cells to know how to spell appletini, so they had to keep it to Apple for short.

Their second kid is going to be named "Mo".

They're not against walking, they just don't want to be sued when people fall. Remember, some of the locals are lawyers rushing to catch the yellow line to Alexandria to sue Metro for some clumsy unfortunate escalator accident victim.

Does DC lead the nation in per-capita consumption of burritos? This needs to be googled.

This morning I read the May 2004 edition of Midwest Home and Garden (or something like that), which contained a recipe for Mojitos and proclaimed it, basically, the drink of summer 2004 in Minneapolis.

I wonder if I (or PLF, or someone else with clout) should write a letter telling the magazine they are too late.

sorry - I'll stop it.
That's okay. Tell us more. What color were her palms?

Either this is an inside joke, or I'm dense today.

(Yes, I recognize they're not mutually exclusive scenarios.)
