I am all for fiscal sanity. Let's start by having a not so great society. Then move to the Flat tax, and get rid of the IRS. A lot of the SEC can go, another drag on business. (a) The point is that not even the GOP pretends to want to do what you say anymore -- the party has decided it likes being in power, and weilding power -- which has severely compromised its principles and ideological purity.
(b) Nixon ran that war for longer than LBJ did.
