There's something wonderfully contemptuous about bare white walls. Nothing says "There is no place I'd less like to be" than stark white plaster.

A good friend of mine held that philosophy. Firm screwed him, kept him as a junior associate. He had no decorations or personal effects in his office at all. He left and made partner at another firm in under a year.
