This embarrasses me for two reasons - (1) that the sex that we had was apparently less than memorable and (2) that he does, however, remember me, and eventually he will remember that we had sex and be embarrased for me that he didn't remember right off the bat. Arrgh.

He remembers. He's just pretending that he doesn't. He wants you to pretend that you don't either, and just to talk with him casually. He figures that he can bed you again if he takes that gradual approach; he's guessing that "Hi, welcome to the firm, we fucked once so let's do it again!" just won't work.
The whole situation will be very awkward as he tries to emphasize in your friendly co-worker interactions whatever it was that attracted you to him in the first place, all while pretending that he doesn't really know you **that** well.
The best way to avoid this awkwardness is just to fuck him now, preferably on his desk, and post pictures or streaming video on the Adult Board. Trust me, this is the best way.
