And I like painting white walls with dark paint.

I have crown moldings which makes the whole establishing a line between the wall and the ceiling easier. I am not not not ripping out the countertops at this point, unless someone wants to send me several thousand dollars. Honestly, the cabinets are a higher priority than the countertops, as are new covers for the light switches and outlets. I am thinking terracotta (not incredibly dark) in the kitchen and red in the dining room, which like dtb's includes a chair rail. Obviously, I will have to find some kind of red and terra cotta that don't look awful when sort of juxtaposed a bit. I can't, alas, afford professional painters. I have painted before, and I'm anal as hell (tax lawyer!) so I think the taping will actually appeal to me. The living room is probably going to be in the yellow family, and my bedroom in the green family. Ceilings will remain white. I will probably wait a while to do the bathroom as well.
Does anyone know how hard it is to replace an old thermostat with a new digital programmable one? I know my dad has done it, so it can't be that hard, but I have never ever done anything electrical in my life.
