[i]CRAWFORD, Texas — President Bush, as he readied the federal government for a massive relief effort, on Sunday urged people in the path of Hurricane Katrina to forget anything but their safety and move to higher ground as instructed.

“We cannot stress enough the danger this hurricane poses to Gulf Coast communities,” Bush said as the storm roared across the gulf toward New Orleans and other communities. “I urge all citizens to put their own safety and the safety of their families first by moving to safe ground.”

Separately, he spoke by phone with the governors of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

What more do you need to know? there was a plan, there was capability and he did nothing. Can you honestly not see why this is essentially a tacit defence of his inaction? Why can't you admit he dropped the ball and people died?

the rest of your post is meaningless. You criticise Bush for not coming in and helping the dead and dying and suffering but you won't criticise the guy who didn't give them an opportunity to not be in the position. Despite a plan and the means to effect it. You seem to want dead people or poor beleagured evacuees to rise up on the issue. I don't think they have the time or the means. they are trying to survive. And as to the question of what to do with them once they were on the buses, I would rather be alive and in a way station somewhere else then dead or trapped in the Superdome. If they were somewhere out of the zone, it would have made it much easier for the Feds to come in and help them.
P daddy, we've won this one. I think you can move on now. Once we have 3 more senate seats we'll be getting blamed for everything, so save your energy for then.
