Depends on whether you want to stay for nightfall. My recollection is that one is strongly discouraged from driving the road across the mountains during the night, since it's pretty desolate. But my guess is that the
big island revealed gives you the best advice on that, not someone who vaguely remembers tidbits correctly or incorrectly from a few years ago.
