Dowhutchalike in front of a justice of the peace. It's being inside a church that makes the difference. Which is why your Unitarian question is so thorny. I'm still trying to wrap myself around it. It's a brain-teaser, all right.

If you get married in a church and must have a dress that bares the shoulder, have the dressmaker put together a light satin shawl to cover during the ceremony. You can go topless at your reception, if it's a night wedding. I can't think of a daytime setting where strapless works.
