Animal control officers raided a house in Menlo Oaks filled with rats and mice. Many were found dead, and possibly tortured.
The humane society says it's one of the most disturbing scenes they've ever witnessed.
Animal control officers found themselves knee deep in rodents.
"It was horrific. When they walked in they had to cinch up their pant leg so the rats and mice wouldn't climb up their legs," said Scott Delluchi of the Peninsula Humane Society.
The owner of the house, 46-year-old Robert Hollywood (can that really be his real name?), was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
"They were kept in the freezer. Then there were dead rats in the disposal in deplorable conditions," Delluchi said. (I'm going out on a limb here and saying that any animal found in a disposal is going to be in deplorable condition.)
Wagstaffe says the court is now trying to figure out if Hollywood is mentally insane.
Good thing there were no pictures (yet).
