Unless they obnoxiously make a point of saying that they only studied for three days before the exam, and even then they had to do it by kerosene lamp after their 12-hour shift on the road construction crew. Though, I'm not sure whether this story is purely for the benefit of coworkers or whether it was actually used in the speech.
