If the Yankees hadn't won a World Series since 1978, you would have a point. But we won four just recently and three in a row, ending in 1999. Maybe you can limit what is relevant to last year because you just won one. But are you going to shut the fuck up next year when you lose in the first round and the Yankees win it all? No. Then the argument will be, "We won one, you won one. Big deal."

And the comment about me sounding bitter is amazing coming from a Red Sox fan (the most bitter fans of any franchise in the history of the world). Really. I gave your team its due. Don't try and tell me that our past championships are meaningless because you finally won one.

 You sound bitter.

 26 Championships since 1921. Always.

Right. But your last championship was when?

The difference is, Notre Dame is done and has been for a long time. So when they talk about their success, it is meaningless to someone who wasn't born over 30 years ago. They can't compete with big time programs anymore and they can't recruit. There's no shine on that dome anymore. So, while I'm sure the Yankees will be in the playoffs next year, Notre Dame fans will be, once again, talking about yesteryear.

It's a shame that the Yankees can't compete with big time organizations like the Red Sox, THIS YEAR'S WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!*

 | A-Rod had some fight in the beginning of the Series, but whenever the chips are down, he folds. Jeter has been so clutch so often that he gets a pass for this year's pathetic ALCS performance.

But, he's no longer a good fit for our team. He was perfect for the '96 - '00 teams. But apparently our approach is to now be a team of run producers only. Torre makes the right moves when you have a team of role players - guys who get on base, guys who move them over, guys who get the runner in from third, guys who manufacture runs. A team of pure sluggers is (i) not much fun to watch and (ii) not really his style. If we're going to continue like this, we need Pinella.

 | Steinbrenner needs to remember what won it for him those four years: good starting pitching, a phenomenal bullpen and good defense.

 | We got screwed on the pitching front this past year. Clemens and Pettitte should have been there, but what can you do? We tried to fill the holes, but the guys we signed couldn't win a big game.

Our bullpen would have been phenomenal if we used them as relievers and not starters. Gordon's arm was clearly gone from overwork. Mariano had more appearances this year than ever. And Quantrill led the league in appearances (I think). What a waste.

I agree with you on the defense. But we'll solve that when we sign Beltran.

Remember, we lost Giambi and had a bunch of other injuries. Torre actually did pretty well with our overpaid squad. I just think that we now think the answer is to get the best players instead of the best players for our team.
