At family reunions, when politics every comes up everyone (except my uncles) leaves the room. That has actually worked quite well. Politics didn't come up once at the last reunion.

I was in such a room-clearing discussion once, with my brothers and father, and resolved then and there never to discuss politics with my family again. (In my defense, I was only about 18.)
