I realize you're probably still sleep deprived, but try and keep a little focus, okay, Mr. Pathetic?

The new Town Car and the old suicide door variety are so different I didn't feel there was any need to even justify what somebody missing that obvious fact might view as an inconsistency.
Congrats on proving my instincts wrong.
Regarding the hyperbole, have another coffee and Wiki "facetious."

Unfortunately, I am not receiving the confirmation email for my Villager (location: with pitchforks and torches) sock, so I will have to lodge my objection to the new thread title using this secondary. I thought there was a "no poster names in titles" rule? Sorry, penske, but you know I'm a stickler-for-rules kinda guy.

I had blood work done recently. Amazingly, due to my faggotty diet, I've managed to retain what the doc called "sterling" levels of everything... with just a hint of oak and charcoal (aging, of course).

NWTF? (again)
Needless to say, this is a true story.....
Last night, around 8ish, I go the men’s room on my floor. I know that is not a bright thing to do given my past experiences there, but I don’t expect anyone to be in there at that time. It looks clear, the stall doors are all cracked. I set myself up at a urinal and all of sudden one of the stall doors closes…..there was someone in there. I hear some shuffling, some wiping and then a flush and out he comes. Meanwhile I am in mid-pee. A equity fund guy from another office on the floor, although I don’t actually know the dude. Anyway, as soon as he comes out, he starts talking and says, “Hey, you ever see those guys from the Vietnamese trade organization who come in here and splash water all the fuck over the place??? What the fuck is up with that? Those fuckers make a fucking mess, I am thinking of reporting them to building management…., eh?”
I respond that, while I haven’t seen them splashing, I have encountered their odd bathroom etiquette in other manners (and I left it that-these are the Vietnamese trade mission dudes I have cited in other toilet posts).
Anyhoo, the guy sort of ignored me and says, “yeah, those splashing mutherfuckers” and stormed out.
Thoughts? Why do I always encounter these freaks in the bathroom? Should I warn the Vietnamese guys of his animus….align with him against them or just stay of out of it?
Series replies only are appreciated……..
P

He's not a dick...at least to the fans. He was a dick to the media, and said a few things publicly that he should have kept private. The media destroyed him b/c he treated reporters like shit. His current (bad) reputation has been completely exaggerated (especially by Jay Mariotti, who is hated in Chicago). But he's always been very gracious and friendly with fans. I've actually met him in a bar. Unbelievably friendly.
Also, he is the greatest right-handed hitter I've ever seen (Ozzie recently said the same thing). I was 15 when he came into the league. At 8, you start to really like baseball. At 12, you know how to hit, throw and run. But by 15, you get it. And Frank's first years with the Sox corresponded to 15-17 for me. He was just...awesome. He's the greatest hitter in Sox history (by far), and, according to Bill James, a lock for the HOF.
In his 1995 Players Ratings Book, this is what Bill James wrote about him: "Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Frank Thomas...maybe the three best hitters God ever made. Gets on base half the time, has tremendous power, hits .350...what more could you want? He works hard, stays healthy, never slumps. Only weakness are his glove and speed. When the White Sox picked him seventh overall in the 1989 draft, they were widely ridiculed by the scouting community."
Thomas has authored a career batting line of .305 AVG/.425 OBP/.565 SLG. That OBP is good for 13th on the all-time list, and Thomas' .565 SLG ranks 15th all-time (minimum 3,000 plate appearances on both counts).
Soon, he'll be only the seventh player to retire with at least 500 homers and a career batting average of at least .300. The others on that exclusive list are Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams and Mel Ott.P

I posted a response to this that got lost because the last thread closed. Pain in the ass.
Anyway, I hear that. Dave Winfield was that player for me.
But there is no question Thomas is/was a huge talent. Great hitter with an outstanding eye, who hits for power and average. His numbers don't get the attention they deserve because he hit in the steroid era (presumably) without the steroids.
But, I have heard the following about him. Please let me know if I'm off base.
1. He's a stats guy. Doesn't care how the team does as long as he puts up his numbers.
2. He's a shitty teammate. He expects and demands special treatment from the club, thinks he's better than anyone else and generally his teammates don't like him.
3. He fakes injuries. Or maybe he just doesn't play with injuries he could play with because he had that huge contract, doesn't care and puts himself before the team every chance he gets.
4. A friend of mine wanted to try to set me up with his wife when they separated (I think) way back. They told me that he was a tremendous asshole, completely arrogant and hated by everyone "close" to him.
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this stuff.*
TM
*Especially the set-up with his wife. She still hasn't called. <sniff.>

No, go back and read RT's post. That was a legit thread title. It was a quote from Hank, which is why his name should be in there, and was actually first endoursed as a thread title by Gwinky......why do you hate Canada, SS?

The main reason I view it as an inconsistency is because I never said I liked the Town Car. As it happens, we agree entirely that the convertible with the suicide doors is the only model worth owning. They only made them between 1962 and 1964 if memory serves, so they're hard to find period, let alone in decent shape.
I never doubted the facetious part. Did you?

The Baseball gods should prevent the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from getting to the playoffs until they change that recockulous name.
Although it does allow both A's and Giants fans to use the "Beat LA!" cheer. I haven't been to an Oakland game since the name change. Is there a "Beat Fake LA! cheer?

To an extent he was. I guess. Aren't all players "stats guys"? I don't trust anything Kenny Williams or Ozzie say about him -- typical White Sox, however: trash great players after/when they leave. They did it to Fisk, Ventura and even Ozzie.
I think he wanted to win. He was the team's biggest cheerleader when he was hurt last year, and was on the verge of tears after the championship parade.

I've heard this. Don't know if it's true. I know Aaron Rowand loved him. I haven't heard anyone publicly bash him for being a bad teammate except for Ozzie (who bashes everyone) and Kenny Williams, who is an asshole himself. Like I said, the papers really exaggerated all of Frank's purported bad characteristics.
FWIW, the Oakland players can't stop talking about him, how great he is and how he's helped them.

Completely false. Blame that one on David Wells, who claimed just that publicly...just before Frank was diagnosed with a torn triceps.
Frank's foot doctor has said that it's amazing that he can still walk, let alone play baseball. Before 2000, he had never really been hurt.

No idea about this one. Like I said, he's always been great with fans.
