Because he couldn't really control himself, he did both at different times. Whatever you think of the administration's policy, it was undoubtedly undercut by conservatives who railed against masks, virtue-signaled by superspreading, questioned the science, etc. If Trump had been able to resist his own impulses, maybe he could have gotten re-elected. He certainly cost lives, killed jobs and wasted money.
Was the virus ever going to be "contained"? That's the wrong question. It's like not studying for the bar exam, failing it, and then saying, well, was I ever going to get a perfect score?

The points you make are compelling, and I agree with them. But it is also a fact that Sebastian has never been wrong about matters related to Covid. I see your response as not necessarily being inconsistent with Sebastian’s original point, but to the extent it is, I remind you again that Sebastian has never been wrong when discussing Covid-related topics, and you are going to have to figure out how to deal with that fact on your own.

What Sebby is trying to say is that the rest of us don't give enough credit to two-time loser, failed blogger and golf cheater Donald Trump.
Noted losers Adlai Stevenson and Thomas Dewey were the last two people to lose the popular vote twice. Renowned loser William Jennings Bryan did it three times in four elections! As a popular-vote loser, Trump is in pretty rare company.

No. I am saying the prior Administration deserves some credit for having sped up the process of developing vaccines. How much does that accrue to Trump, if at all? I don't know. But if you reread what I wrote, I did not use the word "Trump" in it.

I've always suspected you of being a Sebby sock. So PLF is really just the fantasy life of a lonely ambulance chaser from Deer Hunter land. I'll bet you're even too fat to ride a bike.

I'd thought at times PLF could be your sock, but the wit's too much. I just can't see that voice emanating from a cross of Jon Cryer and George Costanza.

Oh, man, what am I supposed to do here, say I'm rubber and you're glue or something?
I'm just floored by this witty comeback of yours.

Actually? Yes. That's at the same level as your prior Trump-like comment, to which I replied in kind.
What does one do with "You're fat"? I mean, really? Shall we describe ourselves here?
And while I'm not an ambulance chaser, and I've zero interest in engaging in some competition with anyone's fragile ego, you might not want to be so snooty about that. I've a few friends who do that work, and every now and again, I'll try to refer a complex case to one in particular, and he'll remind me:
I don't want to think. Send me car accidents, construction accidents. I make money on that shit. I lose money thinking.
He's got more money than you or I will ever have. And while I'm sweating business sale agreements, he's golfing.
You attempt snooty too often. Understand, it works like Fight Club.

I am just so glad to have finally identified a minority group for whom you have sympathy.

Fat people are not a minority in the United States. If you doubt that, go outside and walk around a bit and observe.
I still can’t get my head around the fact that you called me fat as an insult. First, it’s just bizarre. Beyond that, we’ve never met, but it’s pretty clear that I am probably one of the most vain people on this board. I’m routinely pilloried for being shallow, and you assume me fat?
Jumping off, I recently acquired a bottle of 27 year old Laphroaig. Unparalleled in terms of smoothness. However, it’s the edges, the bite, that makes me love the brand. So I think I’ll stick with quarter cask.
