Take the Not All Americans are Stupid Quiz
(spree: Quiz, with minor noises. Moderately difficult.)

You answered 16 questions correctly out of 20.

You have an impressive understanding of the world for an American. It is likely that you feel intellectually isolated in your home country, and often have to hide your opinions from others. Deep down, you realise that your country is the single biggest threat to world peace in modern times, but you have not yet summoned up the courage to emigrate |

 | My mom will be so pleased when she receives the tree ornament nail. Instead of ordering one, I'm just going to make it myself, though. Presents are so much more personal that way.

MGM buys rights to script parodying 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Harry Potter' movies ... to be called Henry Bates and the Sorcerer's Balls.
They should have stuck with the original title. |

 | That is fascinating. I assume this applies even if you PM the person you are ignoring. This means that someone who I PMed with a question once may not be as much of a total asshole as I thought they were, because they might have PMed me back. And they think I am a total bitch for ignoring their PM.

Fascinating. |

Edited to say that as penance I have taken the person off ignore. I'm sure they will feel much better.

 | I have a nail ornament, though happily without the sappy poem. I got it from the friend to whom I was thinking of regifting the angel. The nail is a reminder that the reason for Christmas (the religious one, not Santa) is fulfilled at Easter.

But I think the bobbleheads and the Jesus ashtray are completely hilarious. And the Glow Grave is unbelievable. |

 | It is little wonder they thought so. Language is more than phonemes, graphemes, morphemes, and lexemes. You've got to get semiotically involved. Semiosis, as I'm sure you know, combines morphemic elements syntagmatically in a horizontal relationship of contiguity (makes a sentence) and chooses elements paradigmatically in a vertical relationship of selectivity (chooses which signs to use). Any large arrangement of semiotic units constitutes a discourse.

Linguist Marc Okrand invented not just a few words to make the Klingons sound alien, but a complete language, with its own vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Arguably this could be considered discourse as there are no fixed rules about how language may be used. However, the Klingon language is still primitive and is insufficient paradigmatically along the axis of substitution to adequately relate "Marty's" theories of being and nothingness.

Plus, you are a dork. |

If you like Elliott Smith, I assume you have all of Nick Drake's works. I'd also pick up Mark Eitzel and American Music Club if you're looking to mope.

 Paigs:
The White Stripes are the best live band in the world right now. But you're right, few bands have good performances on SNL. Whoever remembered that Nirvana did was right.
