I'm sorry, but Matt Rose Bowl being in the top two was a travesty, and if I were Big Red, I'd be completely pissed. She was easily the best contestant that night and if she doesn't go on as a wild card, there's something very wrong with that show.

I'm sensing a lot of similarities between Matt and Josh, the big goofy Marine from last season. Although they have different styles, I see Matt appealing to that same demographic this year. I'm sorry . . . I'm just not impressed, and America proves it's still stupid.

So I'm driving to work this morning and as the signal on the radio weakens, I flip the station and it lands on NPR's Morning Edition (Hi Atticus!). Now, quite some time ago, I made the statement that the majority of popular music produced in the early '70's blows the goat. As I recall, I took a lot of flak for that statement at the time, yet nobody could change my opinion.

Well, finally someone agrees with me.

Washington Post Music Critic Tim Page does a commentary where he states 1974 was, without doubt, the worst year ever for popular music.

prolonged exposure to low-level magnetic fields like those generated by hair dryers, coffee makers and electric blankets can damage brain-cell DNA.

A new study, to be published in the May edition of Environmental Health Perspectives, found that exposure to a 60-hertz field for 24 hours broke brain-cell DNA strands in rats, and exposure for 48 hours caused even more DNA damage.

Bioengineering professors Henry Lai and Narendra Singh also found that continued exposure makes cells self-destruct because they can't repair themselves — much like findings of a 1995 study conducted at 10 times the intensity for just two hours.

The UW study suggests the effects are cumulative, meaning duration can be as damaging as intensity.

"In real life, people get this exposure in brief doses — three minutes of exposure to a blow dryer, five minutes of exposure to an electric razor," Lai said. "This could add up over time."

For the less technological, vibrators operate not unlike an electric razor, and generate very similar strength magnetic fields.

3-5 minutes can be damaging? Imagine some of the possible effect from longer usage.

I take it back though, men do have relevance. If and when I decide to have a child I'll need to get some sperm from somewhere. But that shouldn't take very long. One of these days though, I bet you they'll figure out how to use one egg to fertilize another one. In fact I remember a story a few years back about studies on that. Then we'll be all set.

Why would I use a cell phone? I don't want to brag or anything, but my landline phone is so fancy that it actually came with a redial button! Don't hate me b/c I'm on the cutting edge.

And I will still contribute to the conversation even though baby dyke is history. Matt sucks. The Hawaiian girl sings good, but damn, she seems a sandwich short of a picnic to me. Seriously, I get the impression that she is maybe slightly retarded, or just a bad or nervous public speaker. How can you not be nervous singing in front of millions of viewers but be too nervous to put together a coherent sentence?

I'm looking forward to seeing Amy Adams and Elizabeth LeTendre next week. And the week after that is the 16 year old Hawaiian girl that all the judges have been raving about in the media, but she wasn't featured for even a second on any of the audition shows. Weird.

Such a fertilization would only result in girl babies as two females lack Y chromosomes, which I guess from a lesbian point of view is not a bad thing.

I know you're half-joking about this, but you're right, they have looked into this.

Your science lesson for the day is:

Fertilizing one egg with another will currently not work because certain genes are "imprinted". I.e., even though we each get a copy of each gene from mom and dad (except for the XY combo men get), sometimes only dad's copy gets used and sometimes only mom's copy gets used. Thus, if there are no "dad genes" there will be no baby.
