Republican snapshot of the day

A heartwarming photo of the Commander in Chief teaching his daughter to give the liberal press the old "TALK TO THE HAND" maneuver before sending her out on the campaign trail.

I'd rather see her give one of those come-hither looks to the righties at FOX. Can you post that?

The latest attempt to turn an epithet into a badge of pride:

I hear Sidd has ordered 20 for the firm softball team.

Ty -- he was a senior foreign policy advisor to the Kerry campaign. He might be a weeensy bit interested in the outcome.

No kidding, but that's all the less reason for him to want it out the week before the convention, no?

[eta: Kevin Drum thinks a Dem leaked it:
  • Oh, and this: despite dark allegations that the investigation into Berger was leaked by Republicans to take attention off the upcoming 9/11 report, I think it must have actually been a Democrat who leaked it. Frankly, if I were a Republican, I would have waited until around the last week of October or so. My guess is that some sharp Democratic operative figured out that this wasn't going to stay a secret forever and decided (correctly) that it was better to get it into the open now rather than later.]

I'm mostly just disgusted that Berger's career is getting trashed for no good reason. The breathless stories on CNN bother me maybe as much as whoever leaked it.

NOw he knows how Bork felt. The only difference (other than the fact that Bork's stature was so much greater than anything this Bergen person has ever known) is that the demorats have to be such girlie-men about it.

The Return of the Lawbreaker

Clinton weighs in, according to www.drudgereport.com
  • Former president Bill Clinton defends his embattled national security advisor as a man who "always got things right," even if his desk was a mess.

"We were all laughing about it," Clinton said about the investigation into Sandy Berger for taking classified terrorism documents from the National Archives. "People who don't know him might find it hard to believe. But ... all of us who've been in his office have always found him buried beneath papers."

DRUDGE has learned: In an interview set for publication Wednesday in the DENVER POST, Clinton questions the timing of the Berger flap less than a week before the Democratic National Convention and two days before a presidential commission is slated to release its final report on the Bush administration's handling of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Clinton tells the POST he has known about the federal probe of Berger's actions for several months, calling the news a "non-story."

"I wish I knew who leaked it. It's interesting timing," he added

My thoughts:

1) Interesting that Bill knew about this "for several months" -but Kerry, Sandy's new advisee, only learned about it this week. Odd indeed.

2) Everyone - from the left to the right - and regardless of the motive involving, thinks this was stupid move by Sandy who knows the laws all too well. And yet Clinton thinks its "funny" Not odd, at all.

3) That Clinton questions the timing almost guarantees the Dems leaked it

Exsqueeze me? Notwithstanding what his name has come to signify, Bork got a hearing on his views, and was denied confirmation because of them. His writings since them have made clear that denying him a spot on the highest court was a fine idea. Berger's getting trashed for bullshit.

Bork was one of many appellate judges, while Berger was Clinton's National Security Advisor and on the inside track to be Kerry's Secretary of State. Advantage, Berger.

Upon further reflection, maybe it was the Chicago Tribune. They've been known to do this kind of stuff, on occasion.

Will Kerry promise to reinstate Sadaam? sounds like he's a pretty good guy.
