Yes. It did his career wonders.

It's not an issue of sympathy, its one of respect. Although in modern day America, liberals don't respect a work ethic, whether its one where someone makes $20 or $20M. To the left its an entitlement society.
Since you would prefer to raise the tax burden on those who work for a living in order to allow those who are lucky enough to be born into wealth to inherit more of it, wouldn't that make you the one who lacks respect for the work ethic and favors entitlement?

I don't think so, everyone pays taxes on what they earn along the way. What I am saying is that it shouldn't be double taxed on teh event of death. You earn it, you pay taxes, you amass wealth-you should be able to pass it freely.

Another unresolved question as of Monday morning is why President Bush felt a need to upstage the ceremony in which Chief Justice Roberts formally joined the Court. There was no apparent need for urgency, and the effect was to overwhelm Roberts' investiture by the news of Miers' nomination. It was not an exhibition of refined manners. And perhaps it served mainly to draw an even more vivid comparison between the two of them, to her disadvantage.

This wasn't quite my read on your original statement.

I too, have no pity for someone who dies with $20 million. The sign of a life well lived should be that one's last check bounces. Dying with $20 mil is just a waste, and shows a decided lack of creativity in one's final years.

Bork, whore that he was, was not burdened by such a thing as a conscience. He chose expedience and self-advancement over the pursuit of the truth.
(A) They were surely gestures of protest. Symbolic? I think so, because they knew Cox would surely be fired in the end -- so their protest would have little or no practical effect in the short term.

In the mid to long term -- they had to know their resignations would harm Nixon immensely -- so if they had the intent to harm Nixon perhaps the gestures were not merely symbolic.

(B) You apparently speak out of ignorance, as well as extreme dislike for Bork. Mr. Richardson wrote a book (I think his biography) in which he is much kinder to Bork that you would seem to think is appropriate -- and set forth the basic facts as I recited them.

(C) It is hard for me to take your analysis seriously if you truly think that Bork is unprincipled and without a conscience. Seems the opposite to me (if anything, too strict an adherent to principle, without being sufficiently informed by reality).

Fuck. You have exposed an inconsistency in my self-centered narcisstic greedism. Fuck. Bastard. Having kids, regardless of paternity, has discombulated my amoral center.

eta: what if you unexpectedly become incapacited on the cusp of entering the period when you are going to blow it all on yourself?!!?

What if the guy had $100M 2 days before he died, but he was down to only $20M having relied on Str8s picks?

The way I heard it was the Warren (then Governor of CA) delivered California for Eisenhauer in the primaries (by endorsing Eisenhauer) in return for the next supreme court opening.
