This is what barbecue was made for.

The Cherokee and the Kiowa swore up and down that horsemeat was much tastier than the White Man's beef.

No, no -- it was a serious question. I was trying to understand you better. Why do you torture yourself so?

Baby Names
I was just talking to my ex, who just had a baby. I offered congratulations and all, blah blah blah. Now this is all hypothetical, because deep down I don't think I ever want kids, but if god ever smiles upon my rocky place and a seed finds purchase, or the stork delivers a bundle of joy from cambodia or china or tanzania, I would want to name said bundle of joy a particular name. Now my ex-husband has gone and used that name for his baby. I suppose he was first-in-time, so he gets to use whatever name he wants, but now I'm annoyed because if I ever use that name it will look as if I am copying him.
Oh well. He seems very happy so I don't want to be petty right now. That's why I'm venting to you and not to him.

Was it a name that he had always wanted too? I mean, was this the name that came out in "if we ever have a baby" conversations between you? Or were you both just big fans of "Buffy" or something, without either of you realizing just how big a fan the other was?

No, we had never talked about it (that I can recall specifically). We just appear to have the same taste in names.

It's nice that he's so happy. Annoying about the name, though.
I wish today were over.

Are you going to keep bumping into each other around town?
"Oh, hi, ex. Have you met my daughter Buffy? And how's your little Buffy?"

Wait a second. If you had this name and you liked it and didn't have the "What should we name our kids?" then you are being petty.
If you did have that conversation and he took your name and used it with his new wife, then he is an asshole and you should tell him so, even if you (and he) probably know that you're not going to have kids.

Ha. No, I doubt it. And as I said, this is all hypothetical on my part anyway. But we are friends, and we appear to be staying in touch, so that probably will continue. So it would be weird for me to name my kid the same as his because of course he would find out.

You could always turn it around, and tell him that you had always wanted a child with that name, and you had told him that many times, and if he's so forgetful of that conversation, it's so obvious that he was wrong for you because he never listened to you.

If you continue to be this easily provoked, can I start calling you "Zidane"?
