There was a debate????

Much of GWB's agenda was passed with moderate democractic support. Hell, Kerry and Edwards even voted for some of it.
Zell Miller supports Bush's re-election, making that bipartisan effort as well. It's all bipartisan!

He was also technically "elected to" the Senate, since it is against the Constitution to seat a dead guy. But why dwell on past mistakes.

You mock, but Cheney made this exact point during the debates.

To the GOP, this is evidence of bipartisanship. After all, if they were not reaching across the aisle, how would they persuade a "prominent" "Democrat" like Zell to speak at the RNC?

Did Kerry and Edwards and 20 or so other DEM senators vote for the Patriot Act? Yes.

Did Teddy and many DEMS vote for No Child? Yes.

The vote on the Senate Floor was 58-42, which is the most opposition ever to a nominee for Attorney General. Since the R's had 50 + to hold steady, there was little question that they would have the votes, so it was mostly symbolic. The 8 Dems who voted with them I'm sure had their reasons.

The vote to report him out of Committee, the place where his nomination most likely could have been stopped, was 10 to 8.

I note that when he said this Cheney had the closest thing to a smile he showed all night. Let's not call them on this - I think Cheney was making a joke.

I'm sure Edwards could have made some retort about Lincoln Chafee, and then he, Cheney and Ifell all could have had a good chuckle.

Yes, but the point here is that Cheney did not share his pb&j's on "most" Tuesdays in the Senate cafeteria.

I've heard a number of accounts of how modest and unassuming she is in person, but I'm now beginning to hear stories of diva-like behavior on her part. Ecstasy user. Linked with Hayden Christiansen (FOD), Lukas Haas (drug addict), Jude Law (Deeply in the closet), and Moby (rumored to be a spreader of STDs).

FWIW, Ben Affleck campaigns for Kerry too. 'Nuff said.
Yeah, but she's cute.

(Uh, who is she?)

Where I'm coming from, it's not bipartisan unless you're willing to give to get. I don't recall that USA PATRIOT Act (capitals, please -- it's an [incredibly stupid] acronym) fit that bill. No Child did. Teddy K. and the White House struck a deal. Notably, however, the White House burned the Dems by failing to live its side of the deal, which reminds you that with this crowd, bipartisanship is one of the noises that they make while they tell you to do it their way.

Had it fallen after the election, I can't even imagine the outrage.

Can't win for trying, huh?

Yes, I know. (Though it's hard to see the smile when the response is delivered while staring at the table.)

My point, though, is that this is about all they have to show for their efforts at bipartisanship. The administration and the GOP Congress have been packing it to the opposition for 4 years now, and throughout most of this period they've made no bones about the fact that they've done this shit because they can.

The campaign-induced amnesia I'm seeing ifrom the conservatives here is something to behold.

She's the one who taught the Baguettes how to cut class and smoke behind the school.

58-42 is not a close vote in my mind.

Sorry, I'm having trouble following this. Are you saying that even if a bill is approved by a wide margin, say 73%, that unless there was give and take it is not bipartisan? You've been listening to JFK too long - your arugments are tortured.
