She just (thought she) loved him in spite of it.

For the crime of stringing her along without expressly promising anything, somebody should key his car or slash his tires or sign him up on multiple porn sites using his work email or some similar harassment. If, however, he had promised her the moon without meaning it just to keep getting sex and adoration, then I think a maiming would be in order.
I wholeheartedly agree, and I'm not sure what he's promised or implied to her. (Most conversations I've had about this have been tear filled, so getting coherent responses is sort of difficult, and I've had to fill in some gaps myself.) The desire to maim arises from a description of a conversation with him where, right after dropping the bomb about the new relationship, he asks for her advice about it. I am willing to chalk up a lot to male cluelessness, because I'm pretty much convinced that you have to bonk guys over the head with a two by four before they have a clue as to how you feel about something. But this insensitivity seemed to rise above mere negligence / cluelessness.

For the record, not a good argument. You sound like you're stuck in the past. It's the most recent one that counts.

*11 National Titles
Wow. That's a stupid argument. I'm supposed to forget the championships that they won the year after they've won them? All those World Series games I went to are now meaningless? I can only bring up what happened last year from now on? Boston is the better franchise because they won this year. Makes perfect sense. Wait. No. Boston is a better team this year. I'm not going to ignore history just because no one else has any.

But please apply your standard to yourself. Since the Yankees haven't won anything since 2000, why do you hate them so much? I bet you didn't hate them in the 80s when they outspent everyone and finished in third or below every year. So, why all the venom? Oh yeah. It's because we're a successful franchise. We've always been a successful franchise and we'll always be a successful franchise.

I'm not a Yale alumn, but I hate hate hate Notre Dame.
Still the most modern (AP and Coaches) National titles (8), which are the ones usually counted by historians. And (I think) highest winning %.

Huh. That still sounds clueless to me. He actually sounds genuinely confused. Maybe that was part of the appeal.

Halloween

I just remembered Halloween is this weekend. I don't have a lot of time to pull a costume together, so I think I'll go as an Abu Ghraib detainee and my gf as Lyndie England. Luckily it's still pretty warm here.

Also, I have learned that our neighborhood is one where kids still trick-or-treat. I have not been in a neighborhood like this since childhood and I am afraid I am a little behind the times as to what all the cool kids expect to receive as treats. I am considering baby carrots, eggs, or bibles. Any thoughts?

Did she tell him she was in love with him or was she just in love with him and didn't say anything? Because he might have just thought she was a good friend unless she made her feelings clear.

Right. Sorry. They showed up in Game 1 of a 7 game series. You got me.

I'm not going to debate why they didn't show up in Games 2-4. Maybe you really think it was Boston's pitching. Maybe not. All I know is that the Cards got swept. Rolen had no hits and every swing from a Cardinal player looked like a home run upper cut, without the home run. They made the dumbest of errors and never capitalized on the many errors by Boston players. Whatever. You're right. They showed up and played like the team they've been all year.

I'm not sure that the word "love" was used, but she did make it clear that she had intense feelings for him.

I will note that she has no desire for bodily harm to come to him. She's just very sad right now.

Didn't you read? It's bible belt. Mini-bottles of strychnine, maybe. Or snakes.

Word of warning: the person on whose behalf I'm having the guy roughed up is unaccountably, and despite her best interests, in love with the guy, and she may try to stop you from hurting him. Don't hurt her. Do what you will to him.

I'd do it myself, except she'd clue in immediately that his ending up in the ER and my being in her state isn't entirely coincidental.

I'll be happy to rough up someone in Houston in exchange.
If this person is in Chicago, we may have a deal. PM me with details. My guy in Houston is short and a wimp, if it helps.
