Indeed you are correct.

I suspect that the rules vary, but here's the way the game was played at Big Ed's last week.

Each person who wants to participate brings a wrapped gift. The concept is that you bring something that you received and don't want, but some people just like to buy random weird stuff to bring. Like that fish mounted on a plaque that sings "Take Me To The River." Or the big t-shirt that has a bikini-clad hottie's body air-brushed on it, or the Hulk Hogan biography.

The participants then draw numbers -- the person who gets "1" selects and opens the first gift. The person who draws "2" can either pick and open a new present, or take the present from person 1 and so on. Under Big Ed's rules, a gift gets retired after the third steal, and at the end of it all, person 1 can take anyone else's (Not Retired) gift.

It sounds cheesy, but it is fun. And one man's junk is another man's treasure -- I was very happy to end up with a copy of the Chieftans' Christmas CD. Mrs. Not Bob was less thrilled with the set of Santa Claus martini glasses, but her office is having the same sort of exhange at their holiday luncheon on Friday, so she has something to bring.

I got #3. It was cutthroat and the devestation (hi PLF!) wreaked was indescribable. A mess of blood, wrapping paper and battleship pieces.

Christmas Tunes

YADBP (yet another Dan Band post) from str8: Video for their
instant holiday classic "I Want To Rock You Hard This Christmas" --
safe for work unless people at your work would be offended by the lyric "Have a very merry motherfuckin Christmas" in the chorus.

FYI, this is the sort of thing that can lead to the greatness that is the Sashimi Tabernacle Choir.

The website doesn't at all capture how truly awesome it is to see 250 singing bass do "Day-O." Especially when the lobsters get involved and start dancing.

Ah, the first Xmas in-house. Don't worry, dear, by next year you'll have figured out how to play the system and take the last two weeks off as well.

Indeed. My last job had that sort of gift swap thing. I think ours was called a White Elephant party, and it had a two page listing of all the rules, because it was taken very seriously. My ex-bosses all remember fondly how totally cut-throat I was at it, apparently.

Just because I stole something that I didn't really want from a paralegal because she wouldn't shut up about how much her kid would want it for Christmas. Unfortunately, someone later convinced me to give it back to her after the party. I totally should have kept it. Just out of principle.
Weakling.

No. Although in my house the first one to suffer was Skipper, the totally asexual little sister. As if her total lack of curves and the cursedness of being Barbie's plain little sister weren't enough, I made it worse by cutting off her long blonde hair.

Who came first, Skipper or Jan Brady?

You got the puffing away part correct, at least.
