I'll send you my address, and we'll provide all the food and drink you require. How are you at mounting ski and snowboard bindings?

Oh, and train sets? Do you do train sets?

Let me guess. It was the instruction manual written by english-illiterate Indonesian goatherds that tipped you off.

I was waiting for the inevitable Festivus reference. I prefer the Airing of the Grievances to the feats of strength, but hey, to each his or her own.

As a matter of fact, I specialize in train sets. (only if I get to play with it for a while after though). I bought my nephew an excellent train set just this year and have already put it together on my dining room table (not looking forward to taking it apart for the trip).

Slot cars are the best. My brother and I used to receive these as gifts every year well into our 20s. They don't tend to last long when you have pets.

That could be a new holiday tradition for all of us...

But seriously folks:

Favorite: Covert operation under the tree to carefully lift the tape off the wrapping on certain non-clothes box shaped gifts for a "sneak preview" of their contents... Don't do this anymore, but I might do a tutorial for the Little Fingers as they get older, much to their mom's chagrin.

Least Favorite: Midnight Mass. Thankfully the kids being asleep has kept me from this the past couple of years, but it always seemed to be sheer torture for me. The mass is always at least 50% longer than normal, and there's several perfectly good shorter versions I could attend at a decent hour the next day.

In my family, after about the fifth champagne bottle, the Airing of the Grievances usually leads us directly into the Feats of Strength. Then we have to dump people out into the snow.

You have some weird-ass holiday traditions. Does Michael Jackson fly to your house in a sleigh pulled by 8 magic chimpanzees and leave you presents, like the Elephant Man remains and the rights to the Beatles songs?

Good point. And you are correct. And I thought NCS had distinguished herself from NFH. Oh well.

This exact same thing happened to me about three years ago. Thankfully, I couldn't call it a tradition.

When I was a teenager, my family also forgot my birthday one year.

Good times.
