Or if I refer to myself as something complimentary (like, say, sexpot), it doesn't mean that my Managing Partner should say "that's not a bad business plan coming from a sexpot."

Yes, but if someone calls you an "idiot" in the same lighthearted, joking way that you call yourself that -- or if I call you a sexpot in the same way you use that term about yourself -- then what's the problem? It seems to me (without having to read Bush's entire statement, because, ick) that Bush was calling O'Connor an "old cowgirl" in the same way she uses the term to describe herself -- as a po' country kid made good.
In other words, toots, I agree that it's all about context and intent, but I don't see the context and the intent here as being all that bad.

Again, I will note this is an extension of the strategy the Dems employed after 2000. "bush stole florida" "He really lost" "Waaaaaaaaaa" "we are soreloserman"
the result, the popular vote went from a -500,000 margin to 3.5M. Keep it up and at that rate McCain should defeat Hillbillary by 8M votes. That would be handily indeed.

It's just you, and your inability to respond with anything meaningful when someone points out the Repubs' profligate ways.

Well put Sidd. Best.Sidd.Post.Ever.
Its sort of like Bush making fun of his syntax problems, that's okay. But its not sensitive or politically correct or anti-biased or classy to make fun of someone, like a stutterer, for speech problems or a short bus kid for perceived mental disabilities.
Oh, wait, unless its the liberals making fun of Bush, then its okay.

Kennedy has no foundation to question anyone's ethics. He left a 20 year old to die a watery death due to his drunken recklesssness, while he hightailed it home, to mummy and daddy. Then he paid off her family and the DA.
No.Moral.Authority.
Kennedy=killer.

This worked so well in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, that I suggest the Dems make it a rallying cry in 2008. To wit,
Re-re-defeat [a] Bush in '08

Funny that a libertarian would have a hard time understanding the difference between "eliminating Jesus completely from American society" and "keeping the government out of religion."

Highly untrue.
I think I said it best several years ago when I wrote something akin to "''Tis a shame this Administration is "Compassionate" when it comes to steel tarriffs, farm subsidies, a drug benefit bill and runaway spending, and only "Conservative" on taxes and foreign affairs.

What's less funny is that I can clearly see the distinction, and others cannot.

It is? Cool!

Yes, that new Batman film was cool. I had no idea though, that President Bush played Commissioner Gordon.

I just heard a bit of Bush's comments this morning, and when I heard him say the cowgirl thing, it seemed to me that it would have been better -- more respectful of her stature -- to have dwelled on her current position rather than where she started. I'm not saying it was offensive to me, I'm just saying the focus could have been left on what she's done for the last 24 years.

Then why do you accuse "liberal Christians" of wanting to eliminate Christ completely from American society? That makes no sense at all.

Yeah, but Bush was really fucked up on coke for a lot of that time. Ya' gotta have some sympathy.

I'd like to see to see the baby jebus prohibited from restricting state universities ability to conduct research, out of biology textbooks and out of my bedroom. Does that make me a liberal? Does it make him a pervert?
Is California far off from teaching the story of Xenu as an acceptable alternative to evolution?
