He's 100 pounds bigger. That's one whole Kate Bosworth. How many other weight divisions is a 100 pound disparity allowed? Not something that Leonard ever had to encounter because he wasn't a heavyweight. And I don't recall Ali fighting someone 100 pounds bigger than him.

You are right that the Russian is a novelty act of sorts so it may not be such a mismatch, but I still think that this sort of thing turns heavyweight boxing into more of a joke than it has already become.

Did Ali ever fight someone freakishly large like this, or are boxers that big a relatively recent phenom.

In the UFC, the heavyweight division only goes to 265 pounds -- and even there, with a 60 pound spread, you get some ridiculous matchups.

It's relatively recent because (this is my theory) they are mostly all Eastern European and they were stuck behind the Iron Curtain in the golden age of heavyweight boxing. Now they are free.

The current heavyweight champion of the world is Kazakhstani (Hi borat!) and fights out of my gym and is enormous -- a fucking monster -- and he is one of the little ones.

Lennox Lewis is one of the bigger guys. In fact he dwarfed Holyfield. He's like 6'5", 6'6" or something like that and was over 250 at times.
But anyone bigger than that is a freak show.

Heidi Klum's almost as tall as Holyfield.

eta - anything involving Don King is going to be a sideshow. And Valuev is heavily heavily favored.
