Yeah, the Lexus LS 430 and LX470 say only "wealth, practically spent."
Come on, every car makes a statement, or can be said to, and a statement you (anyone) don't like.

Weren't you the one who was jumping up and down telling everyone that you don't make decisions based on what it says to other people? Have you driven one yet, you moron?
Wait. Let me guess. You have a friend who knows a guy who's really short, fat and bald who has one. He drives it to the bar where he spends lots of money on drinks that make him look cool and gets shot down even though he buys every woman in the bar a drink because he just wants to get laid. Does that sound right?

(Completely different cars. This one was built as a JV between Daimler/Chrysler and BMW, I think, with a nice Brazilian engine. The british version was more like a can opener.)

My only concern with a Mini here in the land of Suburbans and Tahoes would be one for my safety if I happened to be riding in it on Texas highways. All the people here who are so concerned about what look it projects must worry much more about that sort of thing that I do. I buy cars based on whether I happen to like them or not, regardless of what anyone else thinks. And if I lived in NYC or Chicago or somewhere else where parking was at a premium I would certainly consider the Mini. If I needed a new car, that is. Which I don't.

Perhaps, but his real problem is the Jos. A Bank suits and the point collars.

I've known some pretty horny chicks from Iowa. But, you know, I'm that type of cat.

I suspect we will soon see the Smart Car as the next hip thing in tiny cars. Having said all that, I have heard that Minis have great handling, and I think a Mini would be a good car if you did all your driving in an urban environment. I'm not sure they really work for the over-6' set, though.
I should probably also note that I don't give a fuck about cars.

Can't believe I know this shit, but...
The original British Minis were incredibly innovative and, yeah, they made a shit load of them, cheaply. The Cooper version was basically race-tuned and remarkably quick; lots of stories about guys in Coopers taunting expensive Italian sportscars through the alps. Also kicked ass in rally and track events.
The new Minis pay homage to the style of the original, but are very different and very modern cars. Built by BMW; hardly a company known for producing "shitboxes made of recycled beer cans." I'm sure there are lots of people buying them because they are "cute." But there is good reason why the car press and a good portion of performance car nuts can't stop raving about the Cooper S.
Surprisingly, one of the better fits for the over 6 foot set, provided that you don't need anything bigger than a gym bag in the seat behind you.

Parents: two audis. surprised?
Sister's family: Audi and Subaru Outback (not just for lesbians). Though I think they are looking into something to haul the little ones around it- they actually testdrived the Porchse SUV (!) but I think that was just on a lark. Dont know what they got. will ask.

Canadian was not meant as an insult. I was merely anticipating your response in advance. I didn't even know he was Canadian until you pointed it out to me the last time I ranted on how bad he sucks as a quarterback.

Surprisingly, the crash tests come out fairly well for such a small car.
(Almost bought one, but decided that they're taking too much power out of a small engine - the engine will, I think, destroy itself in 90k miles.)

Jesus H. Christ. Do you make all your decisions based on how they will look to other fucking people?
It's a small car. It's quick (the turbo) and it handles very well. I like the way it looks. Who gives a shit whether some idjit like SD is handing out cool points or not if I drive it? If I ever did buy one (and I'll never own a car in the city), I wouldn't buy it because I wanted to get laid. I'd buy it because it's a fun car that I could park anywhere.
I think the reason why you and SD hate it so much is because you picture a certain type of person driving it. That's just stupid and should not be the basis for any decision anyone makes.

Lets just say there are a few of them in Dupont Circle. And I think I would have a good laugh if I saw a big brother like you getting out of one of these things. Just like I would if you got out of a miata. I judge, therefore I am.

How about the squish test? As stated in different terms earlier, I would fear getting run over by an Suburban driving, lipstick applying, cell phone using, baby swatting Highland Parker who thought she just went over a road hump.
Or, on a more practical level, getting dinged by said person trying to park in a compact car spot next to the mini.
