Proof that there are no more good ideas left in the world
The New Gilligan's Island
WB announces their new reality show, "Gilligan's Island."
The show will take 7 average people and strand them on a tropical island. Cameras will document the "castaways" trying to make due with meager provisions salvaged from the S.S. Minnow.
Aaron Spelling says that instead of being voted off the island, attempts to escape will be thwarted by some unforeseen calamity. Spelling promises plot twists such as Russian cosmonauts and robots.

Who cares? Cast a smokin' Ginger or Mary Ann, and I'll watch.

Rachel Hunter is going to be Ginger.
The other contestants of the show are also chosen to reflect the still familiar sitcom characters, including the Professor (here, a New York University prof.) and the Skipper (a Massachusetts small business owner and, well, a skipper).
The "real" Gilligan is a 20-year-old college guy who works at a marina, and, apparently, "has been preparing for this role his entire life because he is Gilligan."

Slumlord Slave?
LINCOLN, Nebraska (AP) -- A landlord went on trial Monday over accusations he demanded sex once a week from a woman who wanted to rent a house from him.
"Let's put it on the table ... once a week sounds good," a man identified as John Koch tells the woman on the tape.
The Justice Department has brought civil action against Koch for allegedly demanding sexual favors from women tenants -- many of them low-income and desperate to find housing -- in lieu of such things as rent and security deposits.

Is it too late to change my answer in the "Ginger or Mary Ann" poll?
Also, I will probably read Washingtonienne's book if the local library picks it up, but will not buy it. I wonder if Wal-Mart will sell a sanitized PG-13 version for proles who like titilation but not graphic depictions of slot C action.

The article linked in your original post stated that Tory Spelling has been cast as Ginger. She is Not Hot.

Gumbi? As Ginger? God, I turn a blind eye to glaring nepotism as much as the next guy, but someone needs to sit down with Aaron and explain just how ugly his daughter really is.

So I heard the Drive By Truckers at ACL, and I liked what I heard. Shortly afterwards, I picked up Decoration Day and Alabama Ass Whuppin', both of which confirmed that I really like this band.
Saturday, I picked up The Dirty South, and on first hearing, I enjoyed it so much I went to the website to see when they'd be next through Houston. Imagine my delight to find that they were going to be at the Meridian on Sunday. Having already seen the Incredibles and cried about football, I decided to blow off my second movie of the weekend and head over to hear the new Southern Rock.
This time I didn't have GAs pestering my sister about her sex life to distract me from really listening to the set, and the boys (and girl) from 'bama were amazing. There were maybe 250 people there, and the sound was MUCH better than at ACL. They switched off between the three leads from song to song, like at ACL, and the set lasted about two hours non-stop. The crowd was energized, as was I (read: I had a few beers and made a fool of myself by dancing a lot, not actually that dissimilar from ACL). It was one of the better small-venue shows I'd been to in a long time, and I was glad to have fortuitously checked out their website.
In related news, the oldest rock station in Houston died on Friday. It got bought out by Clear Channel about 5 years ago, and they slowly killed it until there was nothing but a rotting carcass left. RIP KLOL. You deserved better.

I picked up the Cirty South a few weeks ago, listened through it twice and came away thinking (1) they need a vocalist and (2) Buford Pusser is barely inspiration enough for one song, and certainly not enough for a recurrent album theme. I really don't get what the band had against Buford Pusser. Their fixation on the character was amusing at first, but when I read the lyrics, I couldn't tell whether they were joking.
But since you like it, I'll check it again. I told PLF I hated the Hives new disc some time ago. He properly deemed me an imbecile for thinking so and I gave it another spin and now consider it the best new record in years.

McDonald's gals in Playboy display
Web site picks six 'hamburger honeys' to appear in its 'Women of McDonald's' pictorial.
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Playboy.com debuted the "Women of McDonald's" feature Tuesday in which six employees from the fast-food king were chosen to pose nude for the online pictorial.

I've been to many, many McDonalds and I've seen maybe a total of 3 cute girls. No hot ones. I guess that's why he could only find six.

Disney to Pixar: F YOU
The Hollywood Reporter is, ah, reporting that Disney is moving ahead with plans to create a Toy Story 3, without Pixar. Under the existing deal between the two companies Disney holds the rights to sequels, and Disney has held off on making a sequel while the companies have negotiated a potential extension to the relationship.
Asked by reporters if this means the likely end of the Disney/Pixar partnership, Eisner wordlessly walked across the room to a cardboard cutout of Steve Jobs and promptly urinated on it.

Apparently someone did, because Rachel Hunter is a better choice. Anne, the article was older than today's Rachel Hunter announcement.

Query - is there precedent for both (i) sending him to jail and (ii) enforcing the contract against him (i.e.: enforcing the waiver the women's rent and/or security deposits)?
And - only civil action? Isn't that criminal?

Those are your questions? My curiousity stopped at wondering how he pronounces "Koch."
