Didn't open it after all -- we hadn't finished that claret. Tonight we opened a (screw top!) bottle of Ca' del Solo Big House Red (a Bonny Doon production) to accompany some take-out BBQ ribs, but it couldn't keep up with the sauce -- we had to switch to beer.

Brand new? I swear I thought there was a book called that already. Anyhoo, I'll order it and add it to the stack of books in line for reading when I retire next month.
Obviously "simpleton" is a gross exaggeration, though I'm sort of a fan of trying to keep things simple myself, so something closer to "simpleton" than "complex person" (i.e., "confused and indecisive person") is probably along the lines of my tastes in people. Oh, and happy! Happy people who smile are to my liking too.

Democrats with Cajones - I could learn to like these guys:
Bingaman, N.M.; Cantwell, Wash.; Carper, Del.; Feinstein, Calif.; Lincoln, Ark.; Murray, Wash.; Nelson, Fla.; Nelson, Neb.; Pryor, Ark.; Wyden, Ore.
(I think Murray was the bigges surprize for me - I guess Microsoft got to her).

A copule of surprises on that list for me, not the least being Thune. Nevertheless, I'll stay in his corner knowing who he replaced. Specter is and has been a jackass all along. Some of those others I'll have to look into. Enzi?? Who the hell is that?
Oh, and I'm almost a full Feinstein supporter now, if the starting point is that only Democrats can win Senate seats in California. She's just about my favorite Democratic senator based on her positions.
Hello

That latitude 46 Cuvee in my post could hold up to bbq.
Going a lighter, fruitier way, but staying with that same vinyard, latittude 46 (which was new to me but my fave local wine store just turned me onto), I went with a gewurtztraminer tonight.
Two thumbs up!
Latitude 46º N Gewurztraminer, Celilo Vineyard 2004
There was a day when the future looked bright for gewürztraminer; one made by Associated Vintners helped put them on the map. It was thought to be one of Washington’s grapes. Then the market changed and vineyards were ripped up or were grown with volume as a goal as opposed to quality. But this fruit has been in the ground at Celilo since the late 1970’s just waiting for someone to pay it proper attention. Now someone has, because this is the best Washington gewürztraminer I have tasted in a long time and one of the most distinctive Washington whites I have seen in a while. It shows tons of fruit balanced by lively acidity and just a hint of sweetness. I know that many of you probably haven’t had a gewürztraminer in a long time but this is one you should try.

Buy USG at 4 when Plated said to, but don't sell it at 15 when he said to.

David McCullough was on Tim russert's weekend show on MSNBC tonight. I may have to go and buy this book too. Very interesting interview.

She should answer for her lies.
Further, when is she going to explain why she lies about being named after the first man to climb Everest? Why would she lie about that? What was the advantage? Was she trying to lock up the mountain climber vote?

Why does Slave shave? Why did Paigow give up the Burberry thong? Did she ever really wear one? Was it left in Slave's kitchen? And why does Slave think the fuzzy sweater will buy him any street cred, unless the street is Castro?
She's not your senator. She's not electable as President. And she wasn't the one getting blown by Monica.
I love you like a brother, man. But this shit is just getting tired.

Careful Penske, you don't want to become #34.
Wonk, we on to you. What years did you live in Little Rock, or do you go as far back as the Princeton days?

My one experience in Little Rock was an overnight on the road from Houston to Chicago or Hilton Head. We spent the night at a Day's Inn, where the roaches were bigger than the drinkikng glasses and the only channel we could get on the tv was the 24 hour wrestling channel. The coffee at the Waffle House we had breakfast at was excellent, although not good enough to convince me ever to return.
