answer 2: sizzilate!!!!!
me and my ivory tower snobbish friends don't get why the American people don't buy into our liberal fantasies, and delusions. why don't people get bothered that Bush preelection didn't know the name of Pakistan's leader? Just because he was able to convince that leader to help us deal with terrorism doesn't mean he's an effective President. he's dumb because he didn't know the name. Oh, and Dean saying Soviet Union was just misspeaking.
answer 3: yes. you can say those things, even given your Patriot aCt delusions.
Hank, you're disagreeing with yourself? All these split personalities -- you've been over at the FB with the skanks and druggies, haven't you?

Yes, this extrapolation was not justified at all.

Atticus, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Come now, do you really think the administration brought the turkey with them?

Yes.

The story has no legs and little inherent interest, except as a barometer of the press's willingness to continue to be used to transmit the Bush campaign's, er, Administration's stories. The journalists like to be the ones to tell the stories, so if you don't let them think that they're coming up with it themselves, and distract them with Air Force One gimme caps and wars and stuff, they get surly and start writing stories about the man behind the curtain.
Sorry, but this was an AMERICAN story, and a great one at that (as you correctly recognize). The fact that a turkey slipped into a few frames does not alter that.

He never claimed to be a war hero, Hank.

Don't start mocking our former (and, by implication, current) servicemembers based on their MOS. Lots of soldiers not in a combat arms unit have died in all of our wars.

[I guess my point, is more that Gore's family was as wealthy and well-connected as Quayle's, much more wealthy and well-connected than Clinton's or Cheney's, and almost as wealthy and well-connected as the Bushes -- yet Gore volunteered, both for the Army and for service in Vietnam. He passed on the various deferments or NG slots that were available to him. Take it for whatever you think it is worth.]

This is like saying that showing up to work by 9 is a great thing. Yes, it is amazing when certain employees required to do so actually do so, but that doesn't mean showing up on time gets you a great review.

The Commander in Chief ought to speak to show up and say some encouraging words to the troops. This has been getting done since George the I (Washington that is). It was fine that he did it. Atta boy, George.

[Susan Estrich on the Hollywood "hate Bush" meeting]

I have to admit, that during the Clinton impeachment scandal, I loathed Suan Estrich. But over the last 3 years she has become much more sensible.

Agreed, but why is it fair for you to mock the national guard?

You are simply missing the significance of the visit. Our service people, however, did not. Bush is asking them to sacrafice a great deal in Iraq. By giving up his Thanksgiving and taking on personal risk by flying into a war zone, he is also making sacrafices. Although you cannot equate the two, it is a meaningful symbolic gesture.

OK, now, see how that was a ridiculous retort?
see. now you're awake. Well written- intelectually vapid

In about a year, you will be posting that "it's the President's JOB to win wars, rebuild economies, re-establish governments, and bring peace to areas of strife. Big deal that Bush did this - we don't cheer when the plumber actually gets into his van, do we? That's what we pay him for. Geeze."

All those things that take a little more skill, effort and luck, combined, than showing up for the photo.

Face it - photo ops are part of what a President does. It is important symbolically that there be a photo of the President , bird in hand or not, and troops together. But this part of the job isn't exactly heavy lifting.

Were you speaking of opening a library in Akron, I would be agreeing with you. One seldom worries about Stingers and RPGs in Akron.
