Calling all Musical FB'ers

But anyway, I signed up for Real Rhapsody -- which (sorry if you all know this, but I didn't before a week ago) is this thing where you can play any song you want on your computer and have a play list, etc.
So now that I have all music at the touch of some keys on my keyboard, I'm overwhelmed with all the choices!! Where should I begin? Don't give me a bunch of hipster tunes -- but one or two, maybe, to get my pinky toe wet.
I feel I must include my hometown's biggest export since the automobile -- Eminem. So, where should I start with him?
|
For Eminem, try My Name Is, Kim, Lose Yourself and Haile's Song -- you'll have a sort of four song biography with a wide range of his musical styles
For something different, try Lee Hyla, We Speak Etruscan
ETA: OK, I was posting while on a long phone call, and I see the master has since spoken -- what he said.

I'm just sayin' ...

I hope you feel better soon.

Slim Shady LP- My Name Is

I left off a bunch on the last two albums because I'm not sure you'd like them. But if you likes most of what I listed (and can get past the misogyny and homophobia, which may take you some time), you should give all his stuff a listen. He really is an amazing lyricist. He finally convinced me that he was one of the best with "FixyourbentantennaetuneitinandthenI'mgonna" (sung to the tune of the old Batman theme that goes nuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh) on the Without Me track.

But you left off "Kim" - I think she needs to hear "Kim".

Aww look at daddy's baby girl
That's daddy baby
Little sleepy head
Yesterday I changed your diaper
Wiped you and powdered you.
How did you get so big?
Can't believe it now your two
Baby you're so precious
Daddy's so proud of you
[to kim]
Sit down bitch
If you move again I'll beat the shit out of you
------------
I think his trick is to wait until something happens in his life that really pisses him off. When he's at his absolute angriest, he writes what he's thinking. Then again, "Closet" doesn't sound that way at all. It's a methodical breakdown of his relationship with his mother -- like he worked on it for years. Maybe he's just got a marble loose or has lost his screws.

They weren't bad back in the day. But if you wanna pull out one of their songs, use the one that had people jumpin' at the Apollo. Steppin' to the A.M.
Also, Nas first appears on wax in Back to the Grill (Again) (or was it Live at the Barbecue?) after Serch went solo.
His lyrics didn't really fit with the tone of the rest of that song, but you could tell which one of the four artists on that song had a future.
Finesse, keep a Tech-9 in my dresser
Lyrical professor, keep you under pressure
Mind like a computer, the inserter
Paragraphs of murder, the nightclub flirter
This is Nas, kid, you know how it runs
I'm waving automatic guns at nuns
Sticking up the preachers in the church, I'm a stone crook
Serial killer, who works by the phone book
For you I got a lot to shoot my songs in here
My rhymes are hotter than a prostitute with Gonorrhea
On the mic I let vocabulary spill
(It's like that y'all) That y'all, kick em in the grill
But you gotta like Pete Nice and MC Serch. I mean how many white boys you know had a high top fade (with art carved in the back)? Shit. He even carved his eyebrow (which I totally forgot about and just caught while looking at that photo).

Ah, the Flying Saucer. They are getting to know me there.

Last night, due to consecutive-concert-induced fatigue, I skipped the MF Doom show. Extra credit for those who, w/o Google, can explain the 3rd Bass-MF Doom connection.

Do you think my neigbors are going to slash my tires?
So, my trailerparktrashlandedinthehistoricdistrict neighbors (the ones who like to park their cars in front of my driveway, blocking access) are the only people on my street who don't pay for trash pick up--they claim they take it to the dump themselves...only I keep finding their trash in my can. This morning, I'd had enough (due to them parking in my driveway this past weekend when I specifically asked them not to because I had workmen coming) and threw their trash out of my can and into their driveway. Now that I'm at work, I realize they're likely to retaliate and kill me or slash my tires. So, if anyone would like to speak up and lay claim to any of my worldly possessions, now is a good time.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.
