I went to school with a girl that I thought was a victim of Thalidomide also--maybe I was wrong. She was born with skin over all of her face (as in, she had eyes, but they were buried in her face and had to be dug out) and had only two holes for her nose and a slit for her mouth. Poor girl had surgery seemingly every week. By the time I last saw her in maybe eighth grade she was approaching looking human. Really sad. People were mean to her for a few years before everybody just realized they were being, well, mean.

The Wiz was a godawful film. How can an R&B musical of a classic story starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson be so lacking in soul?

Well, maybe you choose a director better known for dramas, like Sidney Lumet. In his book, Making Movies, which is worth reading, by the way, he admits that there were technical problems that marred the shooting.

Oh, and I hate musicals...except South Park and Chicago.

I saw "Get Carter" again last night. The real one. The 1971 version with Michael Caine, not the silly remake with Sly. I was reminded why it is that Noir is truly a superior film genre, and British noir at its best is really the state of the art. Caine deserved his knighthood for that performance alone.
