But hiding offensive words makes them more powerful, doesn't it? Our grandparents hating being called a wop, or dago, and feared hearing it on order of n-----. I've always been amused by those words; it no longer has power. In the end, its the harm the slur thrower can cause, be it physical or economic which is scary, not the slur.

3000 dead in a flippin train accident?
Let the conspiracy theories start here. Did the villagers see the emperor getting whipped by a dominatrix when his train passed through?
Was this a don't-talk-back psycho-boy sign from China?
b/c I hope none of you believe in mere coincidences, like 2 perfectly explosive trains crashing only a few hours after the world's most feared and hated psychopath passes through the station.
Was there a pit stop so he could visit his Aunt Emma? Maybe a hit? If so, get out your hard hats and hit the fallout shelters, this could be the big one.

But isn't the harm really just the knowledge that the speaker has so much contempt for you that they use the offensive catchword du jure? The substantive meaning of wop is probably slight, but it's the knowing that the speaker picked out a word with the greatest potential to convey his contempt that counts. I doubt the hearing of the word is as strongly hurtful as knowing that you are contemptible in someone's eyes.

Clinton only gave N. Korea the rocket technology to reach Cali, so you're safe. It was the ultimate F. you to Cali for not amending the constitution to allow the ole 3-peat.
Seriously, trains running into each other happens all the time. The train routing technology here is ancient, imagine N. Korea's.

That is a gross mischaracterization of what I said. I never said blacks have to date blacks or if they don't, they exhibit psychopathology. I spoke specifically of Tiger, who has said things in the past that indicate he has a problem, IMHO. I also spoke about black men who only date white women and don't/won't date black women. I don't think I have ever seen Tiger with a woman of color. I also pointed out the disparity between black man-white woman couples and white man-black woman couples and feel that this disparity indicates that something more than true love is going on with some interracial couples.

What are you supposed to call a black person who is a UK citizen? African-British? What about if they are a jamaican? African-Jamaican?

pc stuff
I'm not known for being PC, despite the occasional comment to the contrary here. That is because I rarely focus on the surface and I recognize that sometimes a joke is just a joke and a fag is just a cigarette. If more people did this, we would be better off.
As far as talking about religion, race, sexual orientation without getting in trouble, sometimes you cannot. Sometimes someone in the room will have a knee jerk reaction and you will spend more time trying to prove you aren't a bigot then you can spend on a useful conversation on the subject. That is truly unfortunate, we'd be much better off if we could have an honest discussion about Islam and its impact on women, never mind Christianity and its impact on women. We would be better off if we could have an honest conversation about HIV in the gay community. We would be better off if we could have an honest conversation about domestic abuse amongst lesbians.
Sometimes what happens is if you discuss the former you are being intolerant of religion. What happens if you discuss the latter is that people who are anti-gay scream see, that is why it is wrong to be homosexual, or they do something similar to what happened on the last board and make up statistics about women beating up women (rampaging democratic lesbians as I recall.)
In all cases the point is being missed. But then again, sometimes people bring up Islam and women or HIV and gay people simply because they want to attack Islam or gay people. Which returns us again to context.
Look at the two statements:
How do you defend the terrorist religion of Islam, it is violent and intolerant of women?
Versus
I am concerned about the impact of Islam on women, do you think we could talk about the history there so I can obtain a better understanding of what is really going on.
A lot of the people crying PC PC are the ones who start the conversation the first way. And all they are really doing is hiding the fact that they are bigots behind those two letters.

Neither casualties nor deaths have been confirmed by anyone who is willing to give a name. And it may be one of those things we never really learn, though the scale has to be huge for South Korea to be announcing their suspicions on casualties when it happened on the other side of N. Korea from them.
As one who believes things have reasons, and big things have big reasons, I think its safe to say that my theories are correct. Either its a.) Kim's hand to silence voices who know something or b.) China's hand sending a message to Kim, or c.) another nation that does not like Kim, trying to make it appear like a.), b.) or an accident (for those innocent enough to believe in such things).
Note, a.) is not diametrically opposed to your inadequate concern statement. For that matter, neither is b.) or c.) (i.e., it was pretty uncaring of him to get his country into this mess).
Hell(if you were Kim and you weren't going to nuke some part of America, what part would it be?)o

Kim won't nuke america. He'll hit Japan because Japan has a bigger problem responding and America has a harder time justifying its own response.
As for the train, since Kim has proven himself quite capable of killing people through starvation and terror that does not become publicized, why would he blow up a train that's obvious even to south Korea.
The reports mentioning his presence in the town are solely "gee whiz, good thing he didn't come through here 9 hours later" type mentions.
[ETA:] Apparently NKorea has cut phone lines to limit dissemination of information about the explosion. That's hardly part of a statement-making strategy.

For option (b), are you saying that China bombed NK?

The speculation that I have heard is that they made changes in the train routes for security purposes for Kim's visit and this could have resulted in a misrouting.

Why was his current solution (i.e., just let them starve to death) not working well enough?
