What crises are you taking care of in the office that could not be done from a hotel room, setting aside a couple hours in the morning and maybe an hour or two some evenings?

If it's all about the billable hour (and I know for you it isn't, though for most of us it is) and keeping clients happy, it's not hard to expand your vacation if you're willing to work some during it.
I rarely have a crisis. When I do it is normally at a point when I will be in the office anyway, I set my vacations away from likely crisis periods. Fortunately I can generally predict when the crises will happen and good planning keeps them to a minimum. In fact in 6 years I haven't had that many crises and most are solved with a deep breath and a phone call or two or even a raised eyebrow and a glare. (My glare is excellent.)

However, with all that planning, often a year or so in advance, my schedule is set out very early. What I have to do is schedule my vacations very early or manage to find a block of time away from busy periods. Given I have from 1-6 projects running any given month, that can be hard. It is also hard, given the constant flow of work, to take off for any length of time. When I do I normally come back to a lot of work and by the time I catch up, I need another vacation.

I do take a number of long weekends and days off here and there. That has become more frequent since Mrs. Eaze entered my life. She thinks I need to rest more. She's right.

Well, did they at least put the apartment to good use by sending a firm-wide email asking who wanted it?

Yes you do.
I work for a workaholic. 1 week in the spring and 1 week during gwifgwif. Of course, none of us can take that time. We would love it if he would take 4 months off.

I am most envious of all this vacation talk. I need one. Won't get it though -- you should hear the bitching from the clients about taking the Friday after Thanksgiving off. Sheesh.

As for an answer to the poll, "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede (I think), or some other "AM Gold" 1970s crap.

Too tiring to go back and put them all in. Plus, I'm trying to be less OCD.

Moon River because I am a sap. If I'm really drunk, Always on my Mind, which I sing while wiggling my head back and forth and up and down.

When we were kids, we used to sing "Here for a good time, not a long time" by Trooper. You may not be familiar with it, but it's a good drunken teenager song.

Naked Anchor

CLEVELAND - A television news anchor appeared on the air nude in a first-person report about an artist’s photographs, drawing a record number of viewers for the time slot, the station said.

Sharon Reed was one of hundreds of people who participated in Spencer Tunick’s nude photo installation in Cleveland in June. Her report, shown Monday on the 11 p.m. newscast on WOIO-TV, showed far-away angles of her nude and some closer seminude shots, as well as other participants.

OK you Ohio people - is she hot?

Van Morrison, Into the Mystic. Usually on my own, though. It's not really a group-type song.

If there's a group involved (and if I'm drunk enough), Louie, Louie's lyrics help mask the stage of drunkenness.

I just received a deal timeline which has the term sheet going out to the other Company on 11/26. guess that answers my should-I-take-a-trip-over-Thanksgiving question.

A friend of mine was in one of Tunick's photographs a while ago with about 65 other naked people. She wrote about the experience for her website (spree: photograph of naked people, no real details, it's art, your firm should like it). HBO had a special on his projects maybe a year ago. (spree: more nudity, more art). I can't decide if I like the art or not, but it certainly is impressive that he can get that many people to take their clothes off in cold places.

Speaking of art, the art crawl is this weekend in the Warehouse district in Houston. Always a fun event.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a friend who's going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving with a friend because she just couldn't take the stress of being with the family (Dad and mom separated and now they hate each other).
She usually gets a wicked sunburn.
