I vote for OC as the best show of all time. And the worst show of all time. I can't believe it's going to be a month until the next new episode. Fuckity fuck fuck. Or as Summer would say, "Eww."

Best line of last night: Sandy to Seth (about Summer): "She's hot STUFF son!" That whole exchange, with the anime and whatnot, was genius. McG is doing a bang-up job EP-ing that bad boy.

Yeah I did notice it, and damnit, I'm sure I heard a Spoon song on there too. I don't care what anyone says, the OC is great and I'm not ashamed to say it. The only cheesy thing--that famous quote: "This is how we do it in the OC." I just can't support that one.....

The Infamous "Cover Letter"

TM,

I haven't followed the whole thread on that alleged cover letter. Is that thing really text from an actual cover letter? The fact that its captioned like a legal document is a bit confusing. I can't tell what's after-the-fact embellishment from what might be actual text. My apologies for being clueless to sarcasm on this one. On one hand, I can't believe its really from an actual cover letter, but on the other hand, I am surprised more each day with just how mentally disturbed people, and particualrly people in law, can be.

Give a poor fool some guidance on this one.

Thanks,
SD

SD, yes, some poor misguided soul opted not to run his coverletter /resume by Career Services and actually sent that rather amusing, er, missive to a bunch of law firms. One imagines that his dream of billing 3000 hours a year, sifting through dumpsters and eulogizing his mother on speaker phone will remain but a dream.

I imagine that all Tulane law students from now on will be getting a lecture about cover letters on the first day of their first year from now on.

Edited to add that the only embellishments, as far as I can tell, are the items in brackets that have kindly tried to hid the law student's identity and the identity of former employers.

David Blaine in a box

"In the past week, Blaine has had to endure red laser beams locked onto his eyes, and constant drumming that has interrupted his sleep.

As he continues to fast, his “home” has been pelted by eggs, raw sausage and even a hamburger dangled from a remote-controlled helicopter." - from msnbc.com

The guy with the remote-controlled helicopter is brilliant.

My husband and I saw one of his Street Magic specials on the TV as we were getting into bed one night this week. We watched for about 10 minutes. When he does his cards tricks/sleight of hand/street magic stuff, he really is incredible.

His stunts, on the other hand, leave me cold. WHo the fuck cares if he hangs of of London Bridge or spends a week encased in ice? Well, I guess somebody does, but it ain't me....

It's real. I redacted the guy's personal information. He tried to be creative with it and drafted it in the form of a complaint (I guess in an effort to stand out -- which succeeded a little too well as you can see).

If you PM me your email address, I'll send you the whole thing (which includes the poor guy's resume), if you haven't received it already.

Er, I'm not trying to be Timmy, but I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Iatrogenic:

(1) Induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of an infection or other complication of treatment.

(2) Induced inadvertently by the medical treatment or procedures or actvity of a physician. Originally applied to disorders induced in the patient by autosuggestion based on the physician's examination, manner or discussion, the term is now applied to any adverse condition in a patient occurring as the result of treatment by a physician or surgeon, especially to infections acquired by the patient during the course of treatment.

So basically, a doctor using his cell phone causes iatrogenic conditions?

Yes, you are trying to be a Timmy, and you are succeeding.

I know what the word means. I looked it up too.

I was trying to be clever and referencing a discussion from earlier in the day...[I apologize if I failed to be clever...]

I imagine a lot of the comments about his letter were either sarcastic or just plain nasty, but I'm curious as to whether any of the comments made about it could be construed as favorable, at least from the standpoint of someone grudgingly admiring this guy's chutzpah. Just wondering. God knows I have no idea what the decision-makers are thinking these days.

sf

Also, does anyone know if someone took leagl up on her offer to post some of the comments?

To be nice (for once), I suppose he must just be attempting to set himself apart in a crappy job market where even resumes/covers done 'properly' are tossed into the circular file almost immediately.

And if nothing else, he's perhaps amused some lawyers--god knows most of whom need a sense of humor. And I rather hope this poor sap gets a job out of this to compensate for the massive abuse he's (well, rightly) getting from everyone.

Okay, back to being crotchety.
