I think the standard should have something to do with the issue. If you're together for 5 years but you look over at the other person every other day thinking, "You dirty whore. I wonder how many people you fucked on the first date. What the hell was I thinking?" then the answer should change, no?

Sex on the first date is a successful relationship.

Don't be mad because I'm making you wait. You'll break into the rotation sooner or later.

I'm just asking.

This concept is odd to me. What is the rationale behind not having sex on the first date (other than b_n_b's)? That is, if the parties are hot for each other, like each other, and are ready for a successful relationship, how would the first date sex hinder a relationship's development?
I don't think there's a cause-and-effect relationshiop unless the parties involved have virgin/whore complex on one side and some "Rules"-ish jumble of beliefs about love on the other, in which case they shouldn't even be permitted to breed.

That's good. Because all I could think about the couch you posted yesterday was that it looked like a great place to fuck.
(And I wasn't being sarcastic, honey... you really are a romantic.)

Is it relevant that the guy is a self-proclaimed "progressive" Catholic going through a divorce?

I'm married to her.
And I've dated three other chicks long term under those circumstances.
