I just don't think it's very professional for someone to be holding Thurgreed down during a business meeting. It's not as bad as all that farting, but it's not classy.

This post is gonna drive Bilmore nuts.
I just learned today that my longtime membership in AAA has been funding not just ready-when-you-need-it-towing, but also lobbying in Washington for pro-car positions, including opposition to the strengthening of the Clean Air Act in 1990, improvements to fuel economy standards, funding of public transportation, and urban planning measures to limit sprawl. The Sierra Club is pissed and so am I --- I had no idea they had a political agenda they were funding with my dues.
Fortunately, there's a competitor founded by a former president of Working Assets that provides basically the same service at the same price, but without the legislative lobbying on my "behalf" as a car owner. The company donates 1% of revenues to environmental clean-up programs, offers eco-friendly travel alternatives and even takes steps to offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with travel.
Anyhoo, I don't own any stock and am not a shill for the BWC --- I'm just so pissed at AAA that I thought I'd mention it in every conversation I have this weekend. You're the first.

I don't really want to get into the whole race thing. I'm just curious why TM took this as being racial.
|
The introductory phrase "it's funny" inclined me to think TM was joking. That is, he was playing off the fact that a black man with financial wherewithal to be able to sign a $2.5M guarantee, was still being "kept down." Kind of like how Chris Rock (and maybe Bill Cosby) joke about being kept down by the man. Isn't that phrase almost always a joke now (even though, obviously, it's one of those jokes with some truth to it)? Not to mention the fact that TM and (I'm assuming here) and the partner he was working with are both black, and, by drafting the guarantee, acting as agents for the Man keeping the CEO down.
Seems like a witty line, unless the client heard it.

Atticus, you sound just as shocked as Bilmore was when he found out the AARP was about more than his Silver 10% senior discount card...

It was a joke, busty puppy, a joke. TM ain't slow on the uptake and he's been around long enough to know how common it is to require owners of privately held companies to guarantee corporate debt. Sheee-it, busty, with respect to bank debt they might as well be general partnerships.

Yeah, but look what happened the last time the Working Assets crowd tried to form a crunchy alternative to that peculiar institution.

AAA rated
I thought everyone knew that AAA was an example of the man keeping minorites down.
Anyway, if all you want is the towing and maybe a map now and then, there are cheaper services that are just as reliable. AAA is just a middleman for the towing, anyway. If you want, just join for a year and go nuts getting all the maps you could ever want.
"Oh, I decided not to drive through New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Denver. And Minnesota. And Seattle. All on the same trip that I decided not to take. The 10,000 would have been too much for my car. Next, I'll be flying to Hawaii and renting a car. Can I get maps, please?"

Glad someone was able to squeeze a joke out of this. Yeah, I shouldn't have gone out with him again after the second time. And maybe, for maximum pity humor, I should have told the story about how I got dumped the same week.
