Their lyrics are biting and their arrangements are so damn precise. Great, great stuff.

And if you buy the boxed set - you get all their albums [save the 2 recent ones] on 4 CDs

My SO loves Steely Dan. Raves even. I've never listened to much of their stuff, but I did get major brownie points for the fact that Hey Nineteen was my first 45 purchase. Of course if you look at some of the other stuff that constituted early purchases, that was more of an anomoly than a display of sophisticated music preferences.

Actually during my 45-buying days, I was really into that Who song You Better You Bet, so I went to the record store, but I couldn't remember who sang it, and I didn't know the name of the song, so I accidently purchased Climax Blues Band song I Love You (not even close, I know). Hopefully a penny of my misguided purchase made it to the good folks at the Climax Blues Band, I'm sure they could use some cash right about now.

Catfight!

From realityblurred --

A fight with an agent last Thursday left Sharon Osbourne with "a dislocated jaw, chipped tooth and sprained neck," MTV News reports. The Osbournes star appeared Tuesday on Celebrity Justice to discuss the incident, and the program featured "two witnesses who support Osbourne's claim that Tab was the one who hit first," according to MTV.

I was just a kid, but I remember suffering through what I consider was the death-knell of AM radio. Please don't remind me again.

Upon further review, it also reminds me of perhaps the worst, and certainly the longest song, ever. American Pie (The Day the Music Died) by Don McLean. How anybody could like that piece of shit is beyond me.

This is the part where I confess to having an unaccountable and enduring fondness for Niel Diamond, who was fairly successful in that period.

Ahh - The subjectivity of musical taste.

Ask any guitar player and they will tell you how underrated Lindsay is. Same thing for Mick's drumming.

Secondly, anyone discussing Mac needs to include their long, long history prior to the Lindsay/Stevie era beginning in 1975, including their Chicago blues records with Peter Green. Phenomenal stuff.

Don't get me started on Sabbath, lest I start discussing the much underrated "Technical Ectasy" LP.

Don't get me wrong. I like Fleetwood Mac, and as much as I like Rumours, I still think they are overrated, whereas there are many deserving bands that have been shut out of the HOF voting to date. I'm using that as my measure, since that was the original point of my post in discussing the HOF as one measure of "greatness".

Don't like that example? How about the Doors? I like them, but they are overrated. Their best songs were written by Robbie Krieger. Morrison's overblown, halluciongenic, sophomoric poetry was largely a joke and most people who liked his stuff were too stoned to realize it sucked.

You can have great bands that don't have great musicians, and you can have great musicians that together, don't make a great band. The Velvets, for example, weren't great musicians, but they were a fucking awesome band.

Lindsey Buckingham is a great player. You are probably right in saying he is underrated. Mick's drums are usually so far down in the mix, I can't speak to whether he is great or not. I think he's servicable, but he doesn't do much for me.

I know it's probably blasphemy to say so, buy you can be great and still be overrated. Case in point, Clapton. Great player, but completely overrated. For my money, Carlos Santana, Hendrix and Zappa, just to mention a few, completely kick his ass, as far as rock guitarists go, and there are a plethora of far lesser known blues players who standing side by side, would completely smoke him.

This is why I love music. Everybody has an opinion, sometimes a very strong one, and no one is wrong. They might be unpopular, but not necessarily wrong.

The only retail store for Title 9 is in Berekely. Otherwise, you have to rely on catalogue and website.

Me too. Other musical confessions include Tom Jones.

Tom Jones is sort of "kitschy-cool". You gotta respect any guy who has panties thrown at him when he's on stage, and uses them to wipe his sweaty brow. Although as far as singers go, I would put him in the same catagory as another tarzan-yeller, Michael Bolton, albeit with much more soul.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was an old clip of his variety show where he was singing "Everyday People" with Sly and the Family Stone. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out.

originally posted by paigowprincess I can remember one frat guy and I hooked up and he had this mix tape designed to put women in the mood and I think that song may have been on it (wow do I wish I had stolen that eighties piece of memoriabilia). . . Was the tape called "Getting Over Tunage"? If so, I think you banged my college boyfriend's frat brother.

I am a long-time listen err reader and have enjoyed the back and forth regarding the varying musical tastes amongst the regulars. I find it odd, however, that NOBODY HAS SAID DIDDLEY ABOUT ZEPPLIN (and don't say they are overrated because that just won't fly).

Yes. AM was the nasty. All the good music was being played on FM. Surely you remember? Or were you senile back then, too?

I'm thinking you're talking about Sticky Fingers. Which still carries in its grooves the all-time greatest sax break in rock n' roll.
