Let's not bring Erie back into the discussion. And considering the fact that the entire board was thinking that at the same time, it isn't even a coincidence. |

 | I'm sure you could continue it by PM with sebby. If you move to an in-person "discussion" please film it.

While driving south on 95 in Rhode Island, the guy in the car next to us was TCB'ing. No, we didn't stay around for the money shot. We were young and laughing too hard.

 | The non-boring conlaw Erie is really quite fascinating. But the DOL (EEOC) has switched sides so it looks like it's going to be a non-issue in future.

 | Yeah, which raises the question of why I felt the need to make the joke myself. It was the posting equivalent of blurting out the answer before the teacher decides not to call on you for it just so you can prove you knew it.

This in turn raises the question of why I criticize myself publicly. But we'll have to save that for another session, doc. |

During my first year of law school (I know, I shouldn't have been working, but turns out I didn't for long anyway) I told the scheduler in mid-November not to schedule me for December 20 because I had a Christmas party I really wanted to go to. I continued to remind her of this fact. The schedule came out, and sure enough, I was scheduled to work all night. I told the scheduler that I had asked for it off and was not coming in. I tried to cover my shift but no one would. I told the scheduler this and reiterated (this was like two weeks before the 20th) that I was not coming in. Sure enough, the 20th comes around and I did not show up for my shift. Apparently, chaos ensued. I came home from my well-worth it party in the wee hours of the 21st to a message from the manager informing me that if I could not be counted on, I could no longer count on a job. And that I better have enjoyed the party because I would not work as a cocktail server in my relatively large city again. Blackballed. Muhahahahaha.

I went to that bar that very night (I was scheduled again on the 21st) and drank away my sorrow at having lost my job and all prospects for meaningful work in the future. As I recall, the manager was not amused. They couldn't cover my shift for the 21st either, but since I was fired, I certainly was not going to help out. |

				Ee-rye-eee Canal

Anybody remember this from elementary school? It's been in my head for the past couple of hours:I've got an old mule and her name is Sal Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good old worker and a good old pal
Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal
We've hauled some barges in our day
Filled with lumber, coal, and hay
And every inch of the way we know
 From Albany to Buffalo

 Low bridge, everybody down
Low bridge for we're coming to a town
And you'll always know your neighbor
And you'll always know your pal
 If you've ever navigated on
 The Erie Canal

The rest of the lyrics and a link to an audio file are

 | I love that line. The same was used on me "you know, [gwnc], Toronto is a big city but we [bar owners] all talk". WTF - I walked out on one job and got another one down the street the same afternoon.

One story I like from a place I worked - the manager (prick) was arguing with this waitress whom I really liked (she was really good, too - worked hard, very pretty, had many regular customers), and he was getting mad and said something like "well you can just quit - girls like you are a dime a dozen". So she reached into her belt and pulled out a dime and threw it at him and said "here's your dime, asshole, go make my day" and walked out. He was just stunned - never thought she would leave. He went running after her.

So "here's your dime, asshole" always seems to run through my head when I deal with pricks (often). |
