Bloviate. I have never used this term, but it seems to fit so many different people I come into contact with. I'll have to start using it instead of "talk."

So do some (future) men.

In fact, once when mr.dtb was out of town, I went in the kitchen to rustle up some grub, and my young son followed me in there with a nervous look on his face and asked, "Mommy? Do you know how to make things?"

Luckily, dtb.jr didn't have to go hungry that night because mr.dtb had made osso bucco the night before, so all I had to to was reheat.

(This charming vignette notwithstanding, what [person I can't remember] said was most apt; just because someone doesn't cook, doesn't mean she can't.)

I traded "talk" for "bark" a few months back.

I need help with Bouron

someone brought me a bottle of bouron at my last party that had a lovely horsey on top. What brand was it? I can't recall and I want to buy some for a friend on my way home from work today.

THANKS

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Whoa there cowboy. If you think for one minute that you're kicking me off of my "annoy everybody all the time" pedestal, you've got another thing coming (big props to Judas Priest).

I might not always like what I do, but managing all the bullshit and dealing with new issues or potential issues IS challenging, as is trying to scrape together some more fucking clients so that I can decide that I can maybe do the kind of shit that I do at a higher level. Would I do it if I weren't getting paid what I am? No. But I also wouldn't do it if I really hated it or really got no intellectual stimulation out of it

You've talked before about how much you hate what you do. Have you really picked up no additional skills and abilities after doing what you do for however long you're done it? If so, maybe that's why you hate being a lawyer so much. I would hate being a document monkey; that's why I knew that I would never make it a week as a litigator at a big firm; I've done something where the subject matter interests me enough to go with the allure of more money than I could easily otherwise make, and it makes it worthwhile.

Could somebody replace me? Sure, but they wouldn't have built the relationships and right away have the knowledge about the stuff I do that I have. If you have so little pride in doing a good job, maybe that's why you feel like you have to bullshit clients to justify what you do for them. Fuck those people who build their lives around what they do, but if you can't have at least some interest in the substance of what you do, you're headed towards the stereotypical self-loathing 50 year old lawyer if you keep doing it a lot for a long time.

Make yourself happy; I enjoy posting here because, even with all you fuckers ripping on me and calling me all sorts of names, I like the interaction and it gives me a chance to see different personalities in play. I've got a thick skin and I think it's cute to see somebody pile on to me after a bunch of crap I've spouted off, surely in less verbose, less informed and less humble a manner than I should have.

But, honestly, and you can take this as me being a know-nothing kid or someone who doesnt' know you or jsut some annoying tool on the internet or whatever, if you don't get some enjoyment out of doing what you do, do something else. Even if the money is great and the sex with the wife is hot and stuff outside of work keeps you going, everybody deserves to find a little happiness and self-respect in what they do, even if it's being a lawyer. There are far too many people who lie to themselves and think that's not true.

A big kiss to all you guys, by the way. I kind of like that I unite this board by making everybody annoyed!
Dude, you just aren't "getting it." And there's so many like you out there, who've complicated so many of my days. That you and your kind will never "get it" is what makes you so frustrating to so many. You symbolize the annoyance a load of us have felt for years. This isn't a terrible job; its the people who make it more than it is that make it terrible. And that's not an indictment of law - its applicable in every job.

You're a nudnick. And I think the condition is terminal.

I love that!! It annoys the fuck out of people - especially when you use the word "orders" right after.
"Are you barking orders at me again?"
Then you can just use the shorthand. "Stop with the barking" or my favorite "bark bark bark."

Once you've used it a couple of times, just that one simple word makes the point.

eta - not to be confused with woof woof woof, which was heard throughout the first two rounds of the big dance.

I'm not a fan of the way yap sounds. I also use "blather," "spew" and "ramble" a lot. My favorite remains "harrumph." Nothing cuts down a jackass like saying "Harrumph, harrump, harrumph," in reply to whatever eloquent point he was overstating. You have to drawl it out over your drink as you say it, and it must be said calmly and sneeringly.

ETA: I am uniquely qualified to comment on harrumphers.

Not to disappoint, but I actually somewhat agree with your observation that women (more than men) seem to think they are supposed to be able to cook without knowing anything about it, and therefore on average seem to be worse cooks (than the minority of men who actually do cook). The worst cooks I've known have been men, but they were driven to cook by hunger and desperation, not the idea that it is something they should be able to pull off passably even in a state of profound ignorance.

A lot of women seem to think, consciously or unconsciously, that (i) as women they are somehow supposed to do traditional feminine stuff like cook nice homey meals, and (ii) as women they are somehow supposed to be able do this innately, and (iii) if they don't or can't they are somehow missing some important element of their femininity. Or, they seem to have internalized the idea that female behaviors should be innate not learned.

More an observation on feminism than cooking. Or maybe on self-knowledge more than cooking.

I hope you got a BJ with your lunch, to take care of the other side of that hungry/horney dilemma you were facing.

If we're going to opine on this, why don't we ask the women of the board how many men they've known who purported to know something about, say, auto, home, or PC repair, with an ultimate cost far greater than that involved in consuming a bad meal?
