Why is it in 2004 we're still refusing to acknowledge what both Nixon and Carter's people admitted - harmless drugs (rread, not coke and heroin) should be legal.
|
As if anyone on either side of the aisle would want to be associated with anything from the Nixon or Carter administrations.
WTF?

While I'm ranting...
Joe Lockhart's "puppet" comments about Allawi yesterday were beyond disgraceful. Kerry needs to immediately and publicly fire this jackass, retract his statements and apologize to Allawi, his cabinet and all of our troops overseas.

So, he used to work for us, we picked him to be the head dude in Iraq, and our ambassador controls his television appearances when he is visiting the US, but he's not a puppet? Got it.

While I'm ranting...
Why?
Because his boss is running for President. Because if elected (ha), Kerry will have to work very closely with Allawi. Recall, this is the same Kerry who keeps rambling about how he "wants to work with" foreign leaders.
Because our soldiers are overseas fighting an enemy that is doing its best to convince Iraqi citizens that the Iraqi government is illegitimate.
Because Lockhart's statements - like Kerry's statements about war crimes - give succor to the enemy and provide him with lies and propaganda to use against our troops, putting them further in harm's way
This is outrageous. Lockhart is a disgrace and an embarrassment.

Perhaps Slave was simply offended by the "you can almost see the hand under his shirt" comment, which was, I agree, a bit much for visual imagery. After all, the man's no Jack La Lanne.
In any event, beyond the history and travel schedules, the content of the speech left some confused about the degree of collaboration between the Bush camp and Allawi tent. For example, The Daily Show last night ran the "We're better off, you're better off, and the world is better off without SH" quote from Allawi's speech, then ran a dozen identical quotes from GWB on the campaign trail, and expressed amazement that the speeches seemed to be written by the same people!

1) Uh, Allawi was named PM by the IRC without the consent of either Brahimi, the UN or the US. We discussed this a lot back in the day.
2) When does any foreign leader in this country get to schedule their own TV appearances? Seriously, I'd like to know.

Moderate Muslim is an Oxymoron

Google yusuf islam rushdie for various accounts.

This is what I mean about moderate muslim being an oxymoron. How can anyone be a moderate who follows the koran?
I know the bible says outrageous things in the old testament in particular. The new testament corrected at least some of the violence taught and advocated in the old testament. But most modern day (non-fundamentalist) Christians recognize the bible as anachronistic and adapt the teachings to the modern world.
Practicing muslms by and large don't do that with the koran. Their religion doesn't allow for it. This is why this religion has inflicted so much harm on the world, especially to women.

See, I was with you until this point.
"Because Lockhart's statements - like Kerry's statements about war crimes - give succor to the enemy...."
Mmmmm, succor.
"... and provide him with lies and propaganda to use against our troops ..."
From my limited understanding, the DVDs being used by Terrorist Fuckheads are filled with imagery, but the chances of Joe Lockhart making the cut seem ... low.
"... putting them further in harm's way."
Seems that they're plenty in harm's way now. You think Lockhart's comment will inspire an additional car bomb?

Look, I understand your point, but this does not a Jane Fonda moment make.

Or whoever the "democratically elected" leader of Iraq is. Right now Allawi is more of an administration appointee than head of a sovreign nation. And since when did criticizing foreign heads of state become off base. Would you be similarly indignant if he criticized Chirac?

That seems like W's fault more than Kerry's.

I don't know what "lies and propaganda" you're referring to. When I heard Allawi, it sounded to me like he was speaking from administration talking points. The admin trotted Allawi out for no other reason than to score political points (what's he doing in the US anyway? Doesn't he have stuff to do in Iraq?). I don't see how pointing out that things in Iraq may not be so rosy as picture painted by the admin (through their proxy Allawi) constitues giving succor to the enemy. You should be ashamed at yourself for making the accusation.
