And you have to admit, some of the best playoff series have been because of the wild card. Besides, you should be for it because it allows smaller market teams a better chance at making it to the Series. Boston, Oakland, Houston or Minnesota or whoever can get hot at the right time and they can take out anybody.

I grew up a Mets fan. I like to believe any team can make it - over 162 games.

There has been some good baseball out of the wild card, though, no doubt about it. The Sox / Yankees series is the one that will be talked about this year, not the World Series.

I don't, but concede that it does avoid the problem of having a team with a better record miss out on the playoffs. 1978 would have been a lot more interesting with a 5-game series.

If they're going to have a wildcard, I'd rather just go back to two divisions (or even one), and have the teams with next two best records be wildcards. All told, though, I like the Premiership roundrobin, leaving it at that.

They were solid in the first game, when they kept falling behind and clawing their way back. Then they got completely taken out of their game by some terrific pitching performances. Schilling, Martinez and Lowe were all on. I wouldn't blame the Cardinals for that. It doesn't help that the Cards pitching was mediocre.

(And Coltrane -- the Sox aren't nearly as bad a defensive team as they looked in the first two games.)

My favorite: the hider. You don't leave that soon, you wait for a while. You encourage an attitude of not caring. You actually bill 1000 hours a year. You start working for your own dummy company. You foster the attitude that associates can act like they own the place. You throw around your money under the table to get people to do wacky shit.

Actually, I could never do that. I would be gone the next day. Firmwide e-mail saying something like "I won the lottery. I could barely stomach this job for what you paid me. It sucked for the following six pages of reasons with extensive descriptions of all the assholes. So, I'm out."
