You're right. It's probably snowed a dozen times since they first issued their proclamation, and they've met the commitment of clearing 2" of snow in the three instances where the temperature went up to 45 immediately after. Huzzah!
The less plowing and salt-spreading they do, the fewer potholes they have to neglect later.

I eat grapefruit with a grapefruit spoon. It's delightful. Like a fancy spork.

When your entree comes with, say, steak, potatos, and beans, do you eat them seriatim, or a few bites of each, rotating through?

Do you eat all of your burger before starting in with the fries?
I rotate. Last night I had a portabella mushroom stuffed with ground turkey. I frequently alternated b/w that and the asparagus.

reassessing Spanky's tastes

I was at a cafe/bar on Saturday night for my brother's birthday. It's a Greek-owned place, but it attracts all sorts of eastern/southern european/Middle Eastern types on Thursday and Saturday nights. Bellydancers show up on Thursday nights, and there's DJ Ouzomania on Saturday night.

Anyhow, at around 11:00 these very, very tall, very, very attractive people started filing in, ready to party. It seemed the average height, men and women, was about 6'2".

Turns out that Saturday night was New Years on the Orthodox calendar, and the Houston Serbian community decided to celebrate at Byzantio.

The Houston Serbian community is very, very attractive. And they like to dance.

A good snow is magic for kids 5-12. But an ice storm not so much.
Texas drivers are the worst when it comes to ice. Although certain of us spent our lives in the frosty north navigating ice and snow for a good portion of the year, I was terrified to hit the roads during an ice storm. Idiots in unweighted pickup trucks or sports cars with track tires barrelling down the Interstate at 80 mph made me feel more like being in a real-life Frogger game (with me being the frog).

Here, there was a massive traffic snarl on Friday because a renegade sprinkler caused a small 1/8 inch thick ice patch on the 405/101 split. Six wrecks and a 1 hour delay. At least there is the excuse that there has never been an ice patch on the 405, but still.

Hmm. I have something in common with gwnc's boyfriend. And it isn't the ADD (I don't think). Or the big dick (I'm pretty sure).

True. In fact, I think they refuse to fill the potholes so that pretty soon they can claim there are no actual roads that might need plowing.

2. And FYI, Matt Hasslebeck and clan are from the Boston area. In case you're really really wanting to root for the underdog.

A proclamation! How exciting!

I lived through the DC blizzard of January 1995, which happened over a weekend and closed everything for (close to) a week, and I was one of the stupid people who tried taking the metro when the federal govt decided to open on Thursday even though they only had the weekend trains available (they decided that was a bad idea and reclosed on Friday). One of the top 5 worst experiences of my life. I'm actually surprised no one was pushed onto the tracks at Metro Center that morning.

Maryland and Virginia did an excellent job clearing the snow. DC? Not so much. (No money in the budget to keep any snow plows in working order, apparently. This was during Berry's second stint in office.)

You are wrong about the pickle thing.
It must be consumed at the same time as the sandwich. It is an enhancement, not an afterthought. As if you had put pickles on the sandwich. Which you should always do if it's an option.

polite is right!!!

As I am sure you can imagine, i try to keep up on all things polite. Today at lunch I read Miss Manners. A woman wrote with a public restroom etiquette questions. This woman was out to dinner with her spouse at a larger restaurant. She felt the call of nature at one point and hurried to the ladies' room. On her way in she ran into a female neighbor who started up a conversation. As the two moved into stalls the neighbor kept talking. The lady with the question felt uncomfortable, and kept quiet. Eventually, the neighbor excused herself, but she had kept talking up to that point. The lady with the question asked MM what she should have done.

MM opined that as the stall door closed she should have simply said, "well you'll have to excuse me now." But doesn't that imply some level of required concentration to make conversation impossible or at least difficult.

At my office, if only a co-worker and i are in the men's I'll engage in stall talk. Is it a male/female issue, or perhaps male/old-school lady issue?

Maybe it's a vous/tu thing?

Pictures from today

I'm sure Slave is not missing the lovely weather he left to come to the Bay Area. It's not so much that Seattle only has 2 snowplows, it's the hills and the ice. And the idiot drivers from California.

Paula Abdul

So, she was obviously hammered during this interview. Why doesn't she just say, "I was on meds, I was drunk," because no one but no one believes she was exhausted during that interview. No one. I can tell the difference. I'm experienced.
