Peterson ordered porn channels two weeks after Laci disappeared

REDWOOD CITY - While a desperate search for his wife continued, Scott Peterson ordered hardcore pornography channels from his satellite television provider, suggesting that he knew Laci was not coming home, prosecutors said today.

Peterson ordered the Playboy Channel on Jan. 8, 2003, 14 days after he reported his wife missing, Deputy district attorney Rick Distaso told Judge Alfred Delucchi.

Four days later, Peterson cancelled the Playboy Channel and ordered two hardcore porn channels, Distaso said.

Adding to the suspicion, prosecutors argued in court papers, was Peterson's disconnection of the service immediately after police came to search the house on Feb. 18.

Laci Peterson never ordered those channels and did not want that type of programming inside her Modesto house, prosecutors told Delucchi in a court document. The information further showed that Peterson was not devastated by his wife's disappearance and, perhaps, knew Laci was gone for good, prosecutors contend.

Laci's remains and those of her fetus washed ashore in April 2003 in Richmond. Police arrested Peterson days later.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos challenged prosecutors' attempt to present jurors with the information. He said that it unfairly tarnished Peterson's image and would artificially inflame jurors.

The material was no worse than what is shown regularly on nighttime HBO programming, to which the Peterson's also apparently subscribed.

"How is that relevant to anything?" Geragos asked. "How does that show that he had anything to do with Laci's disappearance? Maybe I'm missing something here.

"What it does do is enable them to further try to assassinate the defendant's character."

Delucchi said prosecutors could show jurors that the porn channels were ordered and later disconnected.

It is so not fair that his provider has hardcore porn and mine only softcore. Maybe I will have to switch to satellite.

But, query for the married/committed FB males who have wives who are not so into the porn (this may be a very small minority around here) -- would you order porn on PPV only if you knew your wife was gone for good?

Obviously I didn't read closely enough. The one time I watched playboy it was so vanilla and softcore as to be anti-arousing.

I think the problem is that the writer didn't say that Peterson ordered both softcore and hardcore porn channels, because he says that he cancelled Playboy and got something harder.

No. At that point escort services would be called; "Hank Jr. this is your Auntie."

This whole argument is bullshit, plus that pregnant a little porn is almost necessary.

Plus, they were also trying to say he had a girlfriend. Her starting to sleep over would show he knew L. was gone, not a little payperview.

Hell, I'd put that as towards his innocence. I mean, if he really thought she was gone for good, he'd have left the house and found some real live pussy.

According to the article it wasn't PPV. He actually ordered the channels full time.

And if ordering porn makes you a criminal, then by God I'm guilty as charged... (fwiw, I think Peterson is guilty as hell.)

I have never experience that particular dilemma, but it sounds to me like a good time to start a new library. Like stamp collecting, but with more cleanup and a soundtrack.
