If Rove testifies in a forest...

While I respect your point about the career people, there's really no mechanism to get them to work for Congress. Maybe it would be better if Congress had a sort of investigative staff, instead of relying on blowhards to bloviate into the microphones at hearings, but we can all thank gerrymandering for the latter.

National Review? I thought Andrew McCarthy was the guy in St. Elmo's Fire and Less Than Zero?
This is good stuff.

Although a joke comparing a the stiffs at a Congressional hearing with a "Weekend at Bernie's" would have been even better.

They wouldn't be working for congress. They'd be working for the DOJ.

Structuring that is kind of a problem when they're being asked to investigate their bosses.

Don't they hire investigative staff for real investigations (like Watergate)?

Since I can't wait 3 hours, I'm assuming that his wife's cancer came back, and he's withdrawing from the race as a result. Anything else it could be?

I like him about as much as I do Athlete's Foot, but I hope that's not the case.

The remark about a conflict wasn't snide, it was serious. I do not see how an attorney, employed by the DOJ, could investigate the DOJ.

You noted that Congress also works for the United States. But a member of Congress isn't acting as a lawyer in conducting an investigation, and is not bound by the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Doesn't the Inspector General always have this problem in each agency?

Politico says he's putting his race on hold.

Or every compliance officer that is also an attorney.

Do compliance officers report their findings to anyone that is not internal? Or do they say that their findings -- at least, if the findings are negative -- are privileged?

Unless Club is proposing that the DOJ investigate, and report solely to the Attorney General, I'm not sure this is a good analogy.
