The Not Bob phone just rang -- apparently, I have to depose Fugee next week.

Why does one have to be a chick to be interested in this book?

It's beautifully written, relies heavily on primary documents, and gave me tremendous insight into what an incredible person Elizabeth was.
I liked this one but preferred this one:

It is considered racist to refer to African American men as "boys." Did you make this mistake the other day? Maybe that explains Thurgreed's gratuitous assassination of your looks, personality, and character.

That was pretty entertaining, but Hiaasen's stuff always seems like it was written in 48 hours with little or no editing. It's definitely in the beach novel category.

I know this is probably not what you're looking for, but I finally got around to the second volume of Taylor Branch's history of MLK and the civil rights movement ("Pillar of Fire"). It's quite a bit shorter than Parting the Waters and covers a more limited period - 1963-65, I think. It's also not as mired in the intricacies of southern Baptist political manuevering (which made Parting the Waters a tough slog in places) and covers the rise of Malcom X as a national figure almost as much as King. All in all it is a great piece of history writing and brings the era to life from Lyndon Johnson all the way down to movement volunteers and voter drives in Hattiesburg. I. highly. recommend. it.
since your legal practice is essentially sticking riders into agreements, you might care to read such weighty stuff when travelling on business. Not Bob has to be thinking about how to trick some poor person into admitting she was at fault when she slipped on peanut oil spilled across the Piggily Wiggily floor. He wants something lighter. But thanks for playin!

Thanks!

1. Bedtime Stories from McSweeneys

2. If rumours are to be believed, Celtic will sign Jan Venegoor of Hesselink within 48 hours. Watch this space.

3. Shut the fuck up, you stupid. fucking. asshole.

I actually just finished that, and learned a lot more about Malcom than I would have expected. (I haven't read the first one.) T

If you haven't already done so, check out David Halberstam's "The Children"

Got me.

Speaking of Pink, I was invited to a Scotch tasting/Fall line unveiling at the SF store this evening.

Methinks I spend too much $$$ there.
